He has decided not to insult the loyal Aggie fan base by charging local kids $20 just to come out to this glorified scrimmage Saturday night. Instead, he is unveiling a new community goodwill initiative where school-aged kids and , I believe, one adult chaperon can receive complimentary tickets. I must say that this is some brilliant marketing on his part: www.ncataggies.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=24500&ATCLID=205679672Aggies Offer Complimentary Tickets Courtesy: NC A&T Sports Information Release: 09/05/2012 GREENSBORO, N.C., September 4, 2012 - As a show of goodwill to the community, the North Carolina A&T Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is once again instituting its annual Aggies Community Outreach program to spread Aggie Pride throughout the youth of Greensboro and surrounding areas. As a part of the initiative, the department of athletics wants to encourage youth groups and individual youths to attend A&T athletic events by offering complimentary tickets. The tickets are for the exclusive use of elementary and middle school-aged children and their adult chaperones only. They may not be transferred or sold to any other party. Community tickets will be available for A&T football games on Sept. 8 (West Virginia State), Sept. 15 (Virginia University of Lynchburg), Sept. 27 (Morgan State) and Oct. 13 (Howard). Groups and individuals must apply online at ncataggies.com. The brochure, which includes additional information about the program, can be found underneath the Fan Zone button at the top right of the website or at the top of this article.

Operation "Be Be's Kidz" is about to be in full effect.
There are going to be kids dancing in the isles, running out on the field and causing total havoc Saturday night. And that is just going to be my two boys.
Lord help us all.

I am just wondering, how much authority did former AD Wheeler Brown had over game tickets and marketing.
I've noticed sometimes how black managers allow more leeway and more latitude for folks other us. If the black person fails, he or she fails, but they should not be hamstrung because the boss thinks they are going to fail.

Hmmm. Why do you feel the need to interject race and color in this announcement?
In my opinion, this is just some innovative marketing being done by our current athletic administration ... and the only color they are focused on is green.

BTW: I can't speak for Wheels (he will probably read this thread and share his thoughts later) but I do know that Dee Todd tried to implement a Family Four Pack ticket plan one year during the middle of the season and I don't think the administration hamstrung her efforts too much. The administration pretty much gave Keith McCluney carte blanche to implement his Solid Gold marketing campaign and the last I checked he was a black dude.
Earl Hilton has spent a lot of time over the past year actually going around and listening to fan and alumni suggestions and trying his best to implement some of those ideas whenever possible. From my brief encounters with him he does not seem to have an ego and is generally willing do whatever it takes to bring A&T athletics to the next level.
I think it is unfair to insinuate that any success (or failure) that he may experience as our AD is due to the color of his skin.

I don't know but since the day that Hilton has gotten the job, the word "smart" has been used a lot by different people and it was used early.
And I do have some knowledge that when past ADs tried to do things that were new, they had to run the gauntlet to get something heard and were still turned down, most time.
I agree with a lot of folks that Hilton is doing a good job and I also think that he has the Chancellor's blessing to do so. Maybe the problem has been the past chancellors more-so than the ADs.
I am thinking out loud.

Just grasping for straws here ... but could that have something to do with the fact that he has a law degree and a ton of on-the-job experience? People who know what they are doing tend to be viewed as being "smart".

***SMH***
Silly question: Is this limited to youth in and around Greensboro area? I'm only asking because my pops is a pastor in SC and they have various youth groups at his church and this seems like something they'd be interested in....

It's a matter of philosophy from the upper level administrators (ie, Chancellors Ofc). Renick was the type to want the stadium filled even if it meant giving tickets away to the community. Battle and Martin(before now apparently) wanted to squeeze every dime and watch the give-a-ways. But different organizations could always contact the athletic department and get tickets for different charities (ie, Boys and Girls Clubs, Pop Warner Football, things like that).

That may be the case, but a lot of that comes down to an AD's ability to navigate the infamous political waters at A&T. Similar to how the process of getting a bill passed in Washington is not as easy as just coming up with a good idea. You have to know which channels to push it through and what power brokers you need to get on your side to endorse the plan.
Ultimately, you also need the ability to SELL your plan to the Chancellor or entire BOT necessary.
The process of getting things done at A&T is not the same as getting things done at most schools.

Just a suggestion, but maybe you should think out loud and then think again before you actually post. Once you put something out on the board, you can't pull it back.

This should ALWAYS be the consideration when posting. BTW, Hilton is smart; that does not infer others are not.

Making it easier for kids to experience an Aggie football game and the campus is a good thing. That’s how I became an Aggie The current youth ticket price is $10, so A&T may only experience a slight loss considering that the kids will beg their parents/chaperones for hot dogs, nachos, etc. A&T should make a lot in concessions. A&T will also benefit in the long run by increasing their exposure to potential students.
