Right now there are just 10 WRs on the Lions roster. They will probably drop that number to 7 by the end of the week.
Wallace will have to probably beat out 3 of the 4 other rookies in camp to win a spot on the active roster or practice squad. Plus he needs to show that he can be an asset on special teams.

I wish he wuda made that field goal attempt. WR, back up kicker, special team stalwart adds to the resume'.

so far, he's proving me wrong. i didn't think he had enough speed to make it this far. no question about his catching ability, that's his biggest asset. i hope he proves me completely wrong and "at least" make the practice squad which would be a major accomplishment...

He's catching pretty much everything thrown his way. That's what's keeping him on the roster. Do your thang, Wallace.

www.detroitlions.com/news/lions-insider/article-1/tough-roster-decisions-loom-at-receiver/fc9ff87c-3eab-4723-a90d-89add8e2244dTough roster decisions loom at receiver Posted Aug 28, 2012 Along with Calvin Johnson, Titus Young and Ryan Broyles, Nate Burleson is a lock. But when it comes to the fifth or potentially sixth and final spot, Burleson says he wouldn’t want to be the one having to make that decision. Nate Burleson doesn’t have to worry about whether or not his name will be on the final 53-man roster when it’s announced sometime Friday. Along with Calvin Johnson, Titus Young and Ryan Broyles, Burleson is a lock. But when it comes to the fifth or potentially sixth and final spot, Burleson says he wouldn’t want to be the one having to make that decision. “In years past it’s been a toss-up between one or two guys for the final spot,” he said Tuesday. “You knew who was going to be on practice squad and you knew who you’re going to activate. “The last couple weeks it’s pretty tough. We have a lot of competition at the back end of our receiver corps, which is good, that just means we’re loaded. The more talent you have on game day the better you’ll be.” The competition for those final spots at receiver has come down to rookie Patrick Edwards, Nate Hughes, Maurice Stovall, Lance Long, Kassim Osgood and Wallace Miles. All six players have one more game Thursday against the Bills to make a final impression on head coach Jim Schwartz and Co. “Just everything that goes into being a wide receiver,” Schwartz said of what he’ll be looking for from that group of receivers when the Lions play the Bills at Ford Field Thursday. “There’s explosive ability, ability to make a play, sure-handed, assignment-sound, ability to play special teams; contribute something there; we’re looking at all those things.” The Lions need to get down to 53 players by 9 p.m. Friday. Schwartz said Tuesday the team hasn’t made a decision on whether they’ll keep five or six receivers. “When it gets down to the end, having numbers doesn’t help you as much as having good players,” he said. One of the biggest factors in deciding who in that group makes the final cut will be their contributions on special teams. Back end of the roster players are typically four-phase special teams performers and that's where their real value on the roster lies. The Lions signed receiver and special-teams ace Kassim Osgood last week, which shows how much they value those contributions. “Just maximize every opportunity,” Osgood said of what he has to do to make the roster. “Catching every ball; hustling to make blocks for your running back; running precise routes; contribute on special teams and make an impact on them as well.” Hughes couldn’t agree more. “I think anytime you’re on the backend of a roster at a spot special teams has a big say so in it,” Hughes said. “The majority of guys who are back end roster guys are four-phase special teamers, so I think that has a big say so, but I think you also have to be effective on offense as well as special teams to make it.” Burleson said in the end, coaches are likely to pick the player they trust the most. “I think the most important thing for them Thursday is to show the knowledge of the playbook,” he said. “It’s all about the trust factor. At this point, the guys that are going to make the roster are the guys who want to help on special teams and you can rely on if we have an injury.”

i dvr'd the lions last preseason game against the bills last night and will watch it when i get home from work this evening. i just want to see how miles does. i'll fast forward thru the rest. sure hope he makes it.
hail, to tell ya the truth, i'm proud that he even made it this far. man, he's a true example of an unlikely success story. dude was a walk-on that broke records at a&t, became a first team all-meac receiver, and now he's one cut away from making an nfl roster...

Miles played the whole 4th quarter but did not get a ball thrown his way. At least three of the guys ahead of him had multiple drops in the 3rd quarter.

Well, Miles didn't get a pass thrown his way in the all star game in ATL at the end of last year. The coaches see something in him even if the OB's won't give him a look.
The way I look at it probably practice squad may be his best bet. It hurt when the Lions signed Kassim Osgood. He is a known special team playa/WR.
It think the last spot or spots (1 or 2) at WR is between Miles, Osgood, Lance Long (3 catches) tonite and Patrick Edwards (2 catches) tonite.
Lions you got a winner.....recognize!!!!

I feel that he will make the cut! Osgood is more of a return man! He is not that great of and receiver. As for long Na, I look at it this way Miles is young and durable . The history on Osgood,Long, and Edwards is their Durability and ability to play with and through injury. Something that Miles has had no problem with. I just think that Mr Miles will make the Squad. Any way we will know by Monday.

saab......hope ur rite!!!! All he needs is a chance.
Dam-a-lam.... Edwards returned his only punt return tonite for 30 yrds. It's gon b interesting. I think if Miles doesn't make the team he will make the prctice squad.
I don't see Stovall, Osgood, or Edwards going to the practice squad. Long might go to the practice squad. I think one of the others will either make the team or be cut. At any rate, we shall see!
