I don't like to see a man get fired. However, a mutual separation agreement is in order. We should pay Eaves some of the money that we owe. He can go and watch his kid play college ball for a year without worrying about having to mitigate his damages and find other employment.

Okay here is how it is going to work; Eaves may be reassigned to somewhere in the athletic department (help with APR). Stihth will take over as Interim and probably be the next coach; I have never seen a coach run out there contract in football or basketball. I am thinking they send them off with time on there contract to give them time to find a job; however Eaves is liked in administration and could get a spot helping Hilton. This would be a good time because talent is returning and we could weather the change better now.

I don't want to see him get fired. Reassign him to McAlpins old position.

I stated months ago how Eaves should've been reassigned after we lost 8 straight non-conference games, then came back to beat Carver Bible College in OT. The time was ripe to make a change - where a new voice could have guided us through the MEAC regular season.
A full year is too much to give to an interim coach. For a full year, we need a coach who we want for the long haul. You don't use a full year of basketball as a tryout. DI programs don't (and shouldn't) operate like that....

I understand what you are saying; and I agree Stith should have been made interim mid season. I guess someone actually thought Eaves would do something this year; NOT!

I would fire the entire coaching staff including Stith. We don't need to keep anyone from this staff to perpetuate their coaching philosophy.
Do as Broadway did ... the new coach if the Brass has enough balls to fire Eaves should bring in the people he wants and feel comfortable with.

I don't want to see him get fired. Reassign him to McAlpins old position. Come on Decks. You really think a guy who won a national championship played in the NBA would take McAlphins old job. I'd bet he just walks if he is re-assigned

I'd bet he just walks if he is re-assigned This really is about what's best for the school and the basketball program. This is probably the best solution for all parties. If he accepted a reassignment it would allow him to keep his salary for another year which would give him time to find another coaching opportunity. If he declined a reassignment commensurate with his salary and educational background then he'd probably void the remainder of his contract and we wouldn't have to buy him out. If there is a change made I suspect this is what we'll see happen as I'm sure we can't afford to buy out another contract.

GO AGGIES GO I dont think any of us expeceted sleep to change your views, LOL. But I'm with you. Sleep did swing to say forget reassignment. Just hire a new coach and staff with a staggered contract to help offset having to buy-out Eaves.

Where is this money coming from? Ok, 2 serious questions. Are you really concerned about where the money would come from or you just dont want to see Eaves go? If this was Eaves last year on his contract what would you do?

No i'm really concerned where this money is going to come from?
Since 99 we have fired Scandrett , Davis ,Todd , Wheeler as AD. Hayes , Small, Fobbs, Lee in football. Hunter in basketball. I forgot the woman's basketball coach we fired. That's 10 athletic contracts that A&T has bought out in the last 13 years. ( or maybe 9 cause Todd got reassigned)
Do you not think that money could have been better spent on the teams?
If this was the last year of his contract, i would have him to reapply for the job against other coaches and whomever the best canadiate is wins

Well, not to sound mean but, Eaves has run his course here at A&T. And at this stage, if we were to keep for the final year of his contract, he'd be a lame-duck coach. So, his credibility level would be pretty much "0" from the fans, to the admins, and to the players. That just wouldn't be a good look.
As for re-assigning him...he doesn't strike me as the type that will sit behind a desk and push pencils for a year.
