saabman........my boy tells me Ray Harrison is in a nursing home off Phillips Ave. He never recovered from when somebody put LSD in his drank when he was in summer school at Carolina his junior year.
Ray was a natural and he had offers from Notre Dame, Michigan, Southern Cal, among others in FOOTBALL coming out of Page. He had offers from Carolina, UCLA, and others in BASKETBALL.
What about Curly Neal (Harlem Globetrotters) and "Sweet" Lou Hudson both from Dudley High School? Lou played over 10 yrs for the NBA Hawks.

What about Bob MacAdoo from GSO Smith High School? The first and only Junior College recruit Dean Smth has ever let come to UNC.
Mac went on to become NBA Rookie of the year, MVP, member of the Lakers NBA Chamionship team and NBA Hall of Famer. Mac is now the head assistant coach of the Miami Heat.

To be honest back in the day A&T don't recruit many kids in the Greensboro area for some reason. Most of the Black players would leaving and going to other HBCU schools. That why NCCU has so many fans in Greensboro. NCCU,ECU,NSU JCSU and FSU recruited hard for greensboro kids. But not A&T at that time. At take A&T a long time to repair their relationship with the greensboro community and it's athletes. I think it stated to change in the med to late seventies. But before then we didn't even talk about going to TEEE.

You know what is interesting is that all or most of the REAL supa-supa pl"Tayas that played high school ball in Greensboro did not go t o"!!!!! Look at the player he had on his Basket Ball team,Hudson,Neal and this cat they called MUDD TAP or sweet tap something like that. I never knew his real name but that dud was off the chain.....lol. Neal and Hudson and some other NBA and ABA players use to come to Windsor center in the summer to play ball. June Harris was their also. They were just picking sides but was one player short. We use to see this cat on the out side court shooting by his self all the time but that day he came into the game. Neal with up to him and asked him to play he said no right. Somebody most had said something because the next thing we knew he was on the floor...lol In some beat up Chuck Taylors on lol. Man he made Harris look like a fool on the floor lol. Then he hit a rainbow jumper over Darnell Hillman we fell out..lol After the game we ask Mr Neal who this guy was " The best Ball player that you'll ever see but will never no". Home boy got his glue and wine money and left the gym. The only player that I have ever seen miss use June Harris and the closest players that I have seen that played like him was Brid and G. Gervin . I can't count Brid are Gervin (not being from G-Boro). But where ever Mr Mud Tap is he put on one (H) of a show that day, A (H) OF A SHOW.

saabman.....My boy say Mud Tap was sweeter than bear meat.
They REALLY had a mob of local talent but they say Coach Cal Irvin liked dem boys out of the tri-state area (NY, NJ, +CONN). They said Coach Irvin said he didn't really want locals because "they knew where all the holes in the wall" were and it may be too much of a distraction being from Greensboro.
Did anybody hear of "Skip Nod" who also went by the name of "Kangeroo" from Charlotte??? They say he took errrrrbody to school in Moore Gym back in da day but he couldn't keep his head out of the "get high" bag long enough to play for Cal. They say he could put a quarter on the top of the back board and when he came down he would have two dimes and a nickel change.

That was the word but Skip was 6' 7" (correct me if I'm wrong) he should have been playing point but Irvin put him on the wing. It was the same with M.Tap also get high first basket ball second. Yes Irvin did fever the Northern players over the home grown kids. That why a lot of us grow up looking out side of Greensboro to go to school. Dick head, Ray Ray,R. little, Skip wise and Stink all from Dudley High should have been recruited by A&T. But now that I think about it Irvin was right in some cases. I was talking to Ray Harrison a few years back and he told we that " I should have went away to school like you did" But Ray I attend A&T but left an went to Tx to go to school. He said ya but " It was just to much presser being so close to home, everybody was looking for you to fail , and then they forget about you". Man that hit me like a brick and you no he was right to a point. You don't have the haters and the groupies on your back when you go away! I loved A&T but I did feel better when I transferred..lol. TX was off the chine..lol. But A&T was in my heart always and it helped me grow as a person. So it can work both ways!! But R. Harrison is my MAN as the best High School Basket ball player in Greensboro! God Bless you Ray.

Vince played Basket ball his game was Football. He went to LACC and then to USC. Vince was at page for a year before going to Smith. He kind of got a raw deal at page from some of the coaches (from what I understand) before transferring but things worked out for him. He is still out their living in Oakland. We have talked from time to time. I think that Stink Jameson is in sack town coaching Basket Ball at some High School. Dick head and Ray Ray are in Cali also and doing well from what I have be told.

Saabman, please get your facts correct before you make comments on this site. I have noticed before that you make incorrect statements but did not say anything about it.
I knew "Skip Nod" very well. He was only about 5'10" to 5'11" at the most. He was slim and bow legged and he was from Charlotte. He never played because he was messing around with heavy drugs.
I thought the topic was about who was the best player out of Greensboro. It had to be Lou Hudson who played for the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA or Bob McAdoo for Buffalo and Lakers. I put my money on "Sweet Lou" Hudson.

Charlie Sanders played basketball really good but he was not the best baller to come out of Greensboro. My high school beat Dudley for the 4-A Championship in 1964 with Sanders as a starter on that team. We also beat them in football with him on the team. Now research that.
