All of you guys who are complaining are so mad and disgusted about the men BB team losing that you can't see the forest for the trees.
The women basketball program is good hands with a coach who won multiple championships at 2 different HBCUs before arriving to Aggieland and A&T paid very good money at the time to get Coach Bibbs and to keep her.
Everyone is excited about the football program but A&T brought in Coach Broadway who had won multiple championships at 2 different HBCUs and A&T paid very good money to hire him and his staff.
When it came to men's basketball, A&T went cheap and all I hear from some posters is that A&T needs to continue to be cheap, with comments like "anyone can do better than Eaves" or "anyone can play guranteed games for money". Yes, you can hire anyone and have up and down seasons and poor APRs or you can play gurantee games for 2/3 to 1/2 of what A&T is getting now.
What I am saying is once Eaves is gone, A&T will have to spend more money than they are currently spending now to get a winner and a winning program.

Bottom line is that our sports programs are on the rise and give us hope. Jerry Eaves does not give us hope. As I mentioned previously, we do not control the purse strings at A&T. Let's top being "arm Tchair" CPA's we don't have to continue to accept mediocrity. This is a new day at A&T we need to move forward instead staying stuck on stupid. Eaves will never take the program further than what it is now. Has anyone payed attention to how the other men's basketball teams in the MEAC are doing this year? If you haven't you should!!! Morgan St. just got beat last nite by 3 pts. to Southern Cal. Norfolk St lost by 2 pts to #16 in the nation Marquette. Other MEAC schools just last week played major powerhouses tight (see my posts from last week). WE ARE FALLING BEHIND!!!! Eaves has gots to go!!! Mr. Hilton you said, "leave finding the money to you." I believe you......let's find it. You can use some or all the money I contribute quarterly each year. Let's rise AGGIES!!!!!

What I am saying is once Eaves is gone, A&T will have to spend more money than they are currently spending now to get a winner and a winning program. jazz, that's not true. there's a "plethora" of highly qualified division 1 basketball coaches out there who'd be more than happy to take our job for whatever eaves is making in salary or even much less. there are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more highly "qualified" basketball coaches out there than there are available d1 head coaching jobs, or even college head coaching jobs period regardless of division. i don't think you'd find that nsu's coach evans, bcu's former coach clifford reed, nccu's levelle moton, hampton's joyner, or scsu's coach tim carter make any more money than eaves does and other than moton, they've all made it to the meac championship game or regular season champs within recent years. literally there are "tons" of coaches out there who would "cut an arm off" to get their foot in the door at a&t. i know because i'm a former high school coach and i mingle with coaches all the time. when i say there's "tons" of them out there, i am not exaggerating. and they'd be more than happy to take a pay cut from eaves salary just to get their foot in the door and prove themselves. if a&t "publicly" announced an opening for a head basketball coach, i can't imagine hilton receiving fewer than 50 to 100 applicants. not saying they're all qualified, just that there's tons of guys out there who want to be a head coach. our task is to pick the right one. but here's the problem. in the past, a&t has not proven that we even have a clue when it comes to hiring new coaches. just checkout our history for proof. the problem is not that there's a shortage of outstanding coaches out there who'd want our job. the problem is a&t having the ability to pick the right one. however, i think dr. martin and our ad hilton are on the right track. clearly they picked the right football coach. however, it remains to be seen if hilton's picks for volleyball, baseball, and track will workout. on paper, they all look very qualified for their jobs and i don't think its that's difficult to do the same for men's basketball...

I agree oleschool. Its one problem with your statement though. Our bad coaches from the past weren't proven. That had been our problem. So we cant allow someone in that "wants to get their foot in the door". That would be repeating what we've done before.
There are a few rules I think you should always follow when looking for a head coach and you can rarely ever go wrong if you stick to it.
They are: Only hire someone with a proven record of winning. If that person isn't available then make someone an interim until you find the right candidate, but dont force someone in there just to fill the job. Never ever ever hire someone that has never been a head coach unless they were already on the current staff. Never go off recommendations., but let their numbers speak for themselves(that includes Alumni).
There are a ton of coaches at the Div2 and Div3 level that fit the above description that would love to come to A&T.
That's not "rocket science". I think Hilton uses that formula already, so our next hire(whenever that is) should be a decent one. If we had followed that we wouldn't have hired Eaves, Hunter,Fobbs, nor Lee.

Agree with both Oldschool & Monster.
I am sure this entire money thing is coming straight from the source of the issue. Just look at the facts. And remember any good communicator can make a compelling arugument.

If we had followed that we wouldn't have hired Eaves, Hunter,Fobbs, nor Lee. actually monster, its very possible to hire a "very good" head coach who doesn't have college head coaching experience "IF" you know what you're doing. let me state that again, "IF" you know what you're doing. case in point, hampton. neither six (women's head coach) nor joyner (men's head coach) had any head coaching experience at the college level. yet, they both won meac championships last season. norfolk's coach evans had never been a college head coach before and he's been to an meac championship game and almost beat the 16th ranked team in the nation the other night. nccu's levelle moton never had head coaching experience at the college level and look at what he's doing over in durham. so yes, i agree that if ya don't know what you're doing, its best to hire a proven coach. but you're gonna pay more for a proven coach. however, if you know what you're doing, you can find a very good coach who's never been a college head coach before. you just have to know what you're doing. i mean, look at what maynor is doing over at wssu. again, no prior head coaching experience at the college level...

I didn't say it wasn't possible, but thats the formula to stay out of trouble. oh, i agree with that. its the best and safest option for an incompetent athletics staff, and it'll cost more money if its a proven d1 coach. but we still could have our cake and eat it too if we find a proven d2 or d3 coach who won't demand a high salary. that's a very good option too, but the decision makers would still need to know what they're doing. can't just hire any ole successful d2 or d3 coach without knowing why they've been successful. we'd have to make sure he's capable of successfully making the transition to d1 basketball...

I will just be the on the opposite side of you guys. I don't compare what A&T is doing with what other MEAC schools are doing because I have no idea what all they are doing to support their basketball program and neither do any of you.
I agree that Eaves hasn't put it all together and if he flops this year, you guys will get your wish of having Eaves resign or removed from being head BB coach.
Anyway, I will wait and see what happens this season and the following 3 years. I have been wrong before but not by much ;D.
BTW, I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express so I can be a CPA.

No, I agree. Bibbs is a real star as a basketball coach but there are coaches out there that can take us to the next level.
What is hard for me to understand is that some people have been caught up in us being mediocre for sooooo long that they make excuses for it and accept it!!! It is sad but true.
I think people are caught up in Eaves' personal accomplishments before he got to A&T. Man, we need to WAKE UP!!!

I think that it is not so much his personal accomplishments before coming to TEE but they do have something to do with it as with all coaches. I feel that the reason Eaves is still around is more so based on the fact that Eaves provided Funds doing a time that no other sports (FOOTBALL) could. He was like a STOP GAP until things got going again

I TRUST HILTON WILL DO THE RIGHT THING AT THE END OF THE SEASON IF WE HAVE ANOTHER BAD WON - LOST RECORD. EVERYONE KEEPS TALKING ABOUT THE BUDGET AND WE CAN'T AFFORD THIS AND THAT. HOW IN THE HECK DO YOU ALL KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT WHAT WE CAN AFFORD TO DO. WHEN WE WERE LOSING IN FOOTBALL SOME PEOPLE WERE TALKING ABOUT WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL LEE'S CONTRACT EXPIRES BECAUSE WE CAN'T AFFORD TO GET A NEW COACH. WELL, YOU SEE WHAT HAPPENED ... WE GOT A NEW COACH WITH A HIGH PRICE TAG AND HE CAN COACH. NOW, THEY CAN DO THE SAME DAMN THING IF THEY WANT TO AND GET A HIGH PRICE BASKETBALL COACH WHO CAN COACH. THESE COACHES WILL PAY DIVIDENDS IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE THE WILL BE WINNERS. THEY CAN FIND THE MONEY TO GET A COACH IF THE WANT TO SO QUIT SAYING THEY CAN 'T BECAUSE YOU DON'T REALLY KNOW.
