there's an easy answer to this dispute. to me, this appears to be a pyssing contest between the trainers and broadway. the easy answer to this dispute is to find out the "truth". its that simple.
either the training staff is justified by holding the 5 players out, or they're not. it shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the truth. anybody that's been held out of practice for 3 weeks because of injury or illness, needs an evaluation of a qualified "doctor", period. and please don't tell me we can't afford a "doctor" because if we can't, we need to shut down our entire athletic department!
once we have a diagnosis of the players by a qualified "doctor" (preferably by an "independent" nonbiased doctor), whether or not they should be on the football field should be based on that diagnosis and perhaps get a second opinion if ya really wanna be on the safe side.
once the medical professionals give a diagnosis and a recommendation, we'll know the absolute truth. put 'em on the football field if the doctors clear them, keep their azzes off the field if they don't. end of discussion. everybody's azz is covered this way.
now, to clean up this mess, hilton needs to conduct a thorough investigation behind this nonsense to determine if either of the decision making parties (broadway vs. training staff) conducted themselves in an "unethical" manner. in other words, did either party base their actions on anything other than the best interests of the athletes? if so, they need to be strongly disciplined or even terminated. if the training staff held guys out just because they hate broadway, then the staff needs to be disciplined. if broadway is putting pressure on the trainers to release players even if they're not medically or physically ready, then broadway needs to be disciplined.
all of this mess can be cleared up by simply finding out the truth and then taking corrective measures to ensure it never happens again...

I agree 100% and how can bringing it up at a press conference help what you stated above?

Well, I don't agree...no discipline needed. He's speaking his opinion, and from my understanding, he never stated that his players needed to be on the field regardless of cramps. He said in a sarcastic tone that he is without 5 players bc of cramps. Why is discipline needed? I just hope Lewis Kindle isn't one of those 5 players.

I agree 100% and how can bringing it up at a press conference help what you stated above? my guess is that broadway is very frustrated and sometimes its necessary to go public just to get things done if its not working internally. if broadway has "justifiable grounds" for his frustrations and for 3 weeks no one has addressed his frustrations, then i don't have a problem with him going public. the man only has 4 more days to get his team ready for the season's opener. i'm basing my opinion on assumptions, but if it were me and despite my outcry internally i've seen no movement on the status of those players (particularly if they're only suffering from cramps), then yeah, i'd have to do what i have to do even if it means calling the trainers out in public. if i couldn't get it fixed internally, yes i'd attempt to get it fixed externally...

I just hope Lewis Kindle isn't one of those 5 players. i'm not saying anyone should be disciplined "without justification". i'm saying if it is determined that either party acted "unethically", then they need to be disciplined. i'm not accusing broadway of this, but "if" broadway is trying to get guys on the practice field even though he fully knows they're not medically or physically ready, then dayum right he should be disciplined. and vice versa for the training staff...

Dr. Martin and AD Hilton are in a tight fit if they have to get involved in this tiff between Coach Broadway and the Head Trainer. Broadway has a guaranteed big money 5-year contract and is Martin’s man; and the Head Trainer was brought in to make the staff more professional and more accountable in light of last year’s tragedy. A&T hasn’t been able to hold onto their trainers in the past 2 or 3 years due to pay and the recent turmoil so A&T isn’t in a position to willy-nilly get rid of a head trainer.
BTW, it is the trainers’ job to work with injured players and get them ready to participate in their sport, but it is the doctors’ job to release a player(s) for play onto the field or court. So Broadway’s beef may be with the doctors moreso than with the trainers. I also think the trainers may not like Broadway’s disposition and the way he orders them around.
Broadway is too old to change so I don’t see this relationship changing. The atmosphere will simply be tense until everyone get on the page that Broadway is King and that won’t happen until he wins big.
BTW, I will call Coach Broadway “The Great Way” akin to “The Great White Way” for NYC’s Broadway Theatre section. Maybe, "The Great Way" was doing some theater of his own by diverting questions away from the upcoming game to some off-the-field stuff with staff...just maybe.

I may have misread 'thrilla's post, but I didn't get the impression that Coach Broadway was being sarcastic. How did you come to that conclusion?

So, other than the trainer issue, did he say much about the team ? Their progression? Depth chart? He said the offense has a chance to be pretty good but the defensive line is thin. He said we will play defensive tackles who are just 230 pounds. Basically we are gonna have to outscore people if we expect to win games. Just like I have been telling yall since camp began. Broadway said he likes his place kicker but the punter is very inconsistent. Right now we have more walkons on the roster than scholarship players. According to Broadway we only have 33 scholarship players and 5 of those are currently being held out for cramps. That means we will likely have just 28 scholarship players for this week and next week against App State. This is what was said.

Thanks 77, it was jumbled up in all the cramp talk and I missed it. So I guess its the same old theme. No run defense and no depth.

Well Aggie77, whose offended? You or the Head Trainer? You seemed more bothered than anyone...what gives? The program is no worse off for that comment. It'll be alright.

Snide remarks aside, I beg to differ, this type of non-professionalism does make the program worse. The last thing we need is in-infighting before the season. The goal is to make the program better, not to remain in a petty cat fight with peers. How does that advance the program? I don’t know either party, but I know human dynamics, and the best way to resolve any conflict is directly, and definitely not at a press conference; especially when both stake holders have vested interest in the success of the outcome. Just because you say “It'll be alright”, doesn’t make it so. And for the record I’m for what in the best interest of the University, that’s what gives. This ain’t it.
