But on the real, from what I had heard from the game on Friday. New Bern is no joke this year They have their QB back from this year so they should be the team to beat this year in their conference. They have a tradition of winning

This kid is the truth:
Jachin Watkins didn’t play in last season’s 4-A Eastern Regional Final against Durham Hillside.
The junior helped lead the junior varsity team to an undefeated record.
Watkins, a 6-foot, 225-pound running back, ran with a purpose in his first varsity game on Friday.
Watkins rumbled for 137 yards and three touchdowns to lead the visiting New Bern Bears over the defending 4-A state champion Durham Hillside Hornets, 27-19, in the season opener on Friday.

Well...like I said I knew this year's team wasn't strong enough to beat New Bern this year. We lost too much from last year's championship team. BUT, I was pleasantly surprised we didn't get slaughtered. We managed to hang and lost by 8. I can live with that. I expected a loss by at least 2-3 scores. I figured the fans would be headed for the parking lot by late 3rd quarter. I hear that wasn't the case at all.
But good luck to New Bern!!!! I say it's between you guys and Southern Durham High to come out of the East.

But on the real, from what I had heard from the game on Friday. New Bern is no joke this year They have their QB back from this year so they should be the team to beat this year in their conference. They have a tradition of winning shoot, we loss 33 seniors from last year's squad that went "undefeated" until we barely loss to hillside in the eastern regional championship game. at one point in the season, we "averaged" over 40 points per game. and yes, our qb is back this year and will be back again next year. he's only a junior this year. he's been our starting qb ever since his freshman year, this will be his 3rd year as our starting qb. college scouts should be knocking his door down to sign him. they play some serious football down east. there's three traditional "powers" down east all located within 15 miles of each other and all 3 are in craven county (new bern, havelock, west craven). not to mention another "power" in greenville rose that's about 35 miles away...

I was very impressed with New Bern's QB last week. He made the right checks at the line of scrimmage and never got rattled even after throwing a interception. The running back is a beast and if he stays healthy he may be one of the best in the state. Hillside's team is not as fast as they were last year and the QB is a pure pocket passer.

Even as good as Hillside was last year New Bern should have won that game it was that goal line stand before the half that I felt gave Hillside the confident that they maybe could win this game. So I am not surprise by the victory. Hillside loss a lot of there lineman this year and there Superman QB.

Oh now don't get me wrong...last year's game between Hillside/New Bern was a pure toss up. The way I see it...if they'd played ten games, both teams would win 5. That's how evenly matched they were. But, my point is, New Bern may have lost a lot but they had a lot backing what they loss. I can't say the same for Hillside...however, Hillside does have talent though, but not like New Bern.

you may not believe this, but our qb (josh taylor) is the "only" returning starter from last year's offense. and, we only have "4" returning starters from last year's defense. only "5" starters returned from last year's squad.
but we have very good "depth". plus, not only did our varsity go undefeated during the regular season last year, but our jv's did too. both teams went undefeated! how often does that happen?

Well hell, that explains it then. Because there is no way that runningback would've been on anybody's JV squad anywhere else in the state....He's a beast. I dare say, had he been on varsity last year, yall would've been the reigning champions.
