I rode over High Point to visit some friends after an Aggie game last fall, first time in about 20 years. Nido is killing over there. I didn't recognize that side of town. www.news-record.com/content/2011/04/21/article/4_families_giving_40m_to_high_point_universityHIGH POINT — Four High Point families are giving $10 million each to High Point University, according to a news release. That means eight families have contributed $10 million since Nido R. Qubein became president.

You guys realize High Point has more millionaires residing here than any city in the state including Charlotte and Raleigh put together. A lot of "old money" in this town.

It's one thing to have them living next door, and a completely different thing to convince them get off $80 million and to raise $170 million in 6 years. That's probably hard cold cash, not pledges, gifts in kind, or obscure patents. $170 million in 6 years and this year ain't over!!!

Hmm...
If I was in the A&T Development Office, I would be making a trip down to High Point, NC to talk to those families. It wouldn't hurt.

The development office needs to be working the streets of Greensboro, because there's a lot of old money there also. Plus Nido has High Point locked down.

Most every one of these loaded millionaires in High Point (32 of them) either went to High Point Central or Westchester Academy for high school, UNC, Wake, or HPU for college, and made all their money in the funiture industry, docotrs, or as civil case lawyers decades ago and several are of Jewish heritage.
