I am glad they're crying in Band Camp, a very early indication of if they will be able to hang for the duration of the MARCHING BAND SEASON, best to get the extra junk out now, when UPPER CLASSMEN RETURNED, then it is on and popping , and then the weeding out process begins, REMEMBER, this band has several road trips ahead of them, NSU, HIU, NCCU, "INDY"v.s. TSU, ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I like what I am HEARING! "AGGIE"BLUEDEATH"PRIDE

All I know is....when all my family starts to talk junk about how good NCCU's band is (selected to the tournament of roses parade)....but I do have a retort. We were crying in band camp! And when the red sea of sound pulls in from Winston claiming to be the best in the state....I'll simply reply "We cried in band camp!" I hope someone is getting my point...do I have to come G'boro this weekend....cause I will. Boy stop it...i'm cracking up at work...lol...stop it.....!

Other bands such as famu bcc nsu and scsu had or may still have large size tuba sections. Just because the machine finally get some size does not mean other bands will be pushed around.

I'm really tired of people acting like numbers have anything to do with how we do. Some of our rawest bands have had 25 trumpets, 12 bones, 8 baris, 6 f-horns, 12 tubas... I'm more interested in what the arrangements are like, and what's the intensity like when they're marching and playing.
And crying's nothing new - we always had a few back in the day. Tighten up or get out!

Let's be honest tony...numbers look good. We were always the small band with the big sound. Now, it looks like WSSU is following that same mold as well as growing their numbers. Just the other nite I was watching the 5th qtr b/t Winston and SC State and Winston was flat out blowing on SC State but HELL SC State had 250 members and it was hard to take Winston seriously no matter how well they were doing. I know that's a bad attitude to take but, it's real.
Ideally, A&T could grow their numbers and blow on somebody.

I know alot of people up here has been waiting for me to return with my assessment of how camp is going since I am the inside scoop man ;D ... but where should I start... Ok this Freshmen class has been doing great the past couple of days. Yes there have been a couple of tears but they have not been quitting as alot of people have assumed. When it comes to numbers, there are about 5 Freshmen Piccolos, about 5 Clarinets, about 19 Freshmen Saxes, 3 Euphoniums, 6 Trombones, 3 Tubas, 6 Mellophones and about 15-16 trumpets... I have to go but will give more updates on camp.

Hmmm looks like everything we have been hearing is pretty accurate besides the 3 tubas unless the person who posted previously meant they expect 24 tubas total but regardless numbers just LOOK better to alotta people, so let's get it B&GMM!!!!!!!

What's up with the 9 tubas I'm hearing about....DAYUM! Didn't they have at least 12 last year? Now they are down to 9...the band sucks at retention.

You not taking into account upperclassmen who haven't reported yet. This was a young band even last year. I wouldn't worry too much about the numbers. We'll be just fine there.
I prefer to put more emphasis on the sound and the attitude of new kids and if they are hungry enough or not -the work ethic.

I know that's a bad attitude to take but, it's real. Ideally, A&T could grow their numbers and blow on somebody. I feel where you're coming from. But even though Winston's a lot better, they still haven't become great yet. Two years from now, I doubt anybody that marched for SC State is going to remember anything about them. There was a time when we made it a point to routinely embarrass bands twice our size. Sometimes we did, sometimes we didn't, but we always left an impression. People that marched for Hampton and FAMU in 1996 still remember when our band came down. Norfolk is still mad about what A&T did in 1999. Neither one of those A&T bands were over 130. Around 2000 - 2002, just about every high school in the state had about 2 or 3 of our songs, and we still hadn't gotten over 160. High schools don't copy your stuff because you're big - they copy it because you make it sound great. We've got the numbers (actually, way more than what we need) and the staff to get back to that level. The only thing left is the band's mentality. As long as they believe they are the best band in the conference, and make it a point to prove it every time they leave the band room, they're going to be remembered for years.
