Do you think Rivals is the best source? ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State, on Wednesday, announced the signing of twenty-two prospects to national letters. Twelve of the Bulldog signees are from the Palmetto State, seven are from Georgia, two from North Carolina and one from Maryland. Three are from schools not far from the SC State campus.
The 2010 Class, which features three Shrine Bowl and North-South All Star Game participants each, includes five wide receivers and defensive linemen each, four defensive backs, three offensive linemen, two prospects designated as athlete, and one running back, quarterback and linebacker each.
Coach Buddy and his staff were seeking help at defensive line, wide receiver and defensive back and it appears they met their goals for the most part.
We had three areas (WR, DB, DL) that we concentrated our efforts on,” said Pough who begins his ninth season at the helm. “You are never certain about things, however, we think we addressed our needs.
“In this group, we have some outstanding personnel, some good people with strong credentials and several who are highly rated,” Pough continued. “Sometimes it takes some players a little longer than others to play well at this (collegiate) level, but I expect a few of these guys to come in and really fill some of the voids we have.
“And, I’m excited about the fact that we got a few players from schools nearby. “It’s always good when you have the opportunity to get local kids in your program. It contributes to the interest from the community and it drives attendance.” Three area players inking pacts with the Bulldogs were two Hunter-Kinard-Tyler High wide receivers – 6-2, 200 Dtwane Fulmer of Springfield and 6-1, 175 Schawn Jamison of Salley – and 6-3, 250 defensive lineman Kendrick Frazier of Denmark and Denmark-Olar High.
Pough also singled out 6-2, 275 defensive lineman Curtis Hill of Columbia (Blythewood High); 5-11, 200 running back Charles Brown of Capitol Heights, Md. (St. John’s College High); 6-1, 230 linebacker Terrell Fitts of Augusta, Ga. (Glenn Hills High), 6-0, 170 defensive back Darius Drummond of Asheville (NC) High; 6-2, 185 quarterback TeDarrius Wiley of Rockingham, NC (Richmond Country High), the brother of Bulldog redshirt sophomore quarterback Derrick Wiley; and 5-11, 180 defensive back Denzel Myers of Charleston (N. Charleston High).
