this is definitely not a young team. we were young last year after the 5 seniors left. this is not supposed to be a "rebuilding" year for eaves. in terms of experience, this is supposed to be the year that eaves turns the corner. in terms of talent, i don't think eaves can build a team much better than the one he has this year. unless he lands a serious stud one day, i don't think it'll get much better than what we have this year.
last year was a "rebuilding" year in the sense that we had to replace 5 seniors, including our top 3 scorers. as a result, we didn't have a "team identity" until late in the season. we shouldn't have that problem this year. to me, alston is clearly the leader of this year's team. coleman is a junior now, its time for him to take on some leadership responsibilities as well.
i think we'll finish the regular season somewhere between 3 and 5. i think we'll have a better team this year than last year. but the question is how much better? we're gonna need some "consistent" scoring from more than just one person. i think we'll have excellent size and decent quickness. it'll all come down to whether coleman will play to his potential. if he does, we could have a very special season and i reserve the right to revise my prediction... ;D

I definatley think a Freshman will start at the 4. Witter, Powell, or Upchurch. with that comment, i think you might want to get to know eaves a little better. he "rarely" if ever starts a freshman. hail, he usually doesn't even give freshmen a whole lot of playing time (ask last year's freshmen, except marc hill). you might want to go check his history regarding that comment...

Maybe a top 3 finish. Just maybe. But I think we all can agree that a 1st place finish for any Eaves-coached team is more "delusional" than not.

looks like another recruiting coup for Eaves this yearTuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 New Ram Cooper commits to NCAT By: Gene Henley Tyner senior Thomas Cooper believes he is the missing piece of the puzzle for the 2009-10 Rams basketball team. He could be right, since he's already solved the next piece of his own personal puzzle. Cooper, who grew up in Chattanooga but spent the last two seasons at Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte, came back from a weekend visit to North Carolina A&T and decided the NCAA Division I school in Greensboro was a perfect fit for him next year. The 6-foot-4 Cooper was a pleasant surprise for Tyner coach Gerald Harris a few months ago. "He's already the best basketball player on this team," Harris said. "He's a pretty good athlete and can shoot the ball well and play a combo guard position. I think because of his size, ball-handling ability and shooting, he's going to help us a lot. "He's very mature for his size and understands he will play at the next level. A&T is fortunate they got him before anybody else did, because he's very versatile and is going to help in what we're trying to do." Cooper averaged 18.2 points per game at Mallard Creek and was a member of the all-conference team in the top-ranked league in North Carolina. "I played middle school for Tyner, and we won the city championship in eighth grade," he said. "We all said when we were seniors, we were going to win state. "Coach has said he wants me to help be a leader, because we were missing one and he knows I can do that. I'll probably be a big contributor with points, rebounds, steals and assists." He said he was recruited by High Point and Drake and talked to UNC-Wilmington, Western Carolina, College of Charleston, Auburn, Virginia Commonwealth and Hampton."I went on my visit to A&T this weekend and liked the players and the coaches," he said. "They played a fast-paced style of basketball, and that's what I like."With highly recruited 6-10 center Michael Bradley and 6-6 Reggie Gilmore, Cooper thinks the Rams' size will give opponents problems, even in a tough district that includes Howard, Brainerd and Red Bank. "We know there are some good teams, but we already have chemistry from playing together for so long," he said. "I think I'm the missing piece, because some teams will have post players my size, but I'm on the wing and Mike and Reggie are inside. We hope to create a lot of mismatches this year." www.timesfreepress.com/news/2009/oct/06/new-ram-cooper-commits-to-ncat/?sportspreps

Sounds like a great recruit. Along with the recruit from Demetha, and if Witter ends up getting groomed to a shooting guard we well will have signifigant height in the back court and still have the ability to change the pace with Mark Hill next year
Interesting and posotive commiment from his Coach "he is already the best player on the team"

Very solid pick up for Eaves. Saw him once in a local tournament and dude is a slasher that knows how to finish. Most folks thought he'd be a major D-I prospect. Word is the big boys backed away from him. Don't know why? He'll be a starter.

Eaves has definitely stepped up the recruiting efforts. I'll criticize when necessary and we all know that but a fire has been lit around there when it comes to recruiting. We went from wondering who the h#ll these kids were..........to being able to find tons of info on the new recruits. That alone is a considerable improvement. Now I just hope they pan out on the floor. And to be honest, in our conference, it only takes 2 solid ballers!
And not to throw anyone under the bus, but it (recruiting efforts) just got like that within the last 2 years!

according to espnu, here's his player evaluation;
Evaluation May, 2009: Scoring combo guard that has a knack for putting up numbers. He is not a pure shooter but is a pure scorer. He gets the easy buckets and tough buckets usually on drives or cuts to the basket. Thomas is a great finisher around the basket completing 3-point plays multiple times. He hangs and takes a bump and finishes above the rim. He needs to improve the consistency on his jumper but he will knock it down off the dribble or catch.

I'll give him a bit more credit than that and you know how I feel about his coaching!!!! But Bozeman coming to the league didn't suddenly make him a better recruiter. He had changes to his staff when we started seeing a difference and I think it can directly be attributed to that!!!! It looks like a classic case of "Less is more"! Maybe he got more involved than he ever had or something, I don't know. But he's doing much better................ on paper!!!
