Down by one at the 16:42 mark, the Lady Aggies went on a 16-5 run to take a 27-15 lead with 11:56 remaining in the half. Despite shooting 51.7 percent (15-29) in the first frame, the Cajuns found themselves trailing 36-49 entering halftime. The Lady Aggies were able to knock down 65.6 percent of their field goals (21-32). In the second half, A&T built up a 26-point lead with less than 10 minutes remaining to coast to the victory. The Cajuns struggled on the night committing 24 turnovers which led to 21 points for North Carolina A&T. Alexis Green led UL with a season-high 24 points and seven rebounds. Mercedes Johnson chipped in 19 points. The Cajuns will now face the loser from the No. 5/12 LSU/Houston Baptist game. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT.

www.ncataggies.com/Womensbasketball/2009-10%20ARTICLES/8AGGIESvragincajun.htmAGGIES SHOOT WELL, BEAT RAGIN' CAJUNSBATON ROUGE, La. – It wasn’t as pretty as North Carolina A&T women’s basketball coach Patricia Cage-Bibbs would like. But she is not going to argue with the Aggies second straight win. Despite turning the ball over 27 times, the Aggies defeated Louisiana-Lafayette in the first game of the Sue Gutner Classic at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center Tuesday evening. The Aggies (4-4) will play host LSU Wednesday night at 7. Senior Tweet Cook led the Aggies with 25 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the floor and 5-for-6 shooting from 3-point range. Freshman Amber Calvin came off the bench to score a season-high 18. “The layoff we had took a toll on us,’’ said Bibbs referring to the Aggies 10-day layoff for exams. “It showed with the number of turnovers we had tonight. But for us to go on the road – this far away – and fight the way we did shows we’re starting to find our rhythm as a team.”When the Aggies did take shots on offensive possessions, they made most of them. For the second straight game, the Aggies shot better than 50 percent from the floor. N.C. A&T shot a season-high 55.6 percent from the floor. The Aggies also had their best shooting night from 3-point range in school history (10 or more threes taken) as they hit nine of the 12 3-pointers they attempted. The Aggies also out-rebounded their opponent by double figures for the second straight contests. “Our offense is helped when we’re making stops on the defensive end,’’ said Bibbs. “I think we did a good job of limiting them to one shot, which helped us pick up more possessions on the offensive end.” After Ragin’ Cajuns guard Alexis Green knocked down a 3-pointer to cut the Aggies lead to 14-13 five minutes into the first half, the Aggies started to pull away as Cook answered with a 3-pointer. Cook’s jumper ignited a 13-2 run. Tierra Thomas, who finished with 16 points on 2-for-2 shooting from 3-point range, scored five points during the run. The Ragin’ Cajuns (2-7) were able to cut the Aggies lead to nine on three separate occasions during the first half, and trailed 49-36 at the half. But by the second half the Aggies were in full control. Their lead ballooned to as much as 26. Green came off the bench to lead the Ragin’ Cajuns with 24 points. “We know what’s ahead of us tomorrow,’’ said Bibbs, who was coaching in her home state. “LSU is traditionally a power in women’s basketball, so we’re going to have to play much better than we did tonight if we want to be successful.”

Smally nor Sams (17 minutes) played alot of minutes; hopefully by design. According to the box score we went deep into our bench which may have resulted in more turnovers. Murdaugh played alot minuteswhich is probably a good thing.

I think Bibbs knew we could run this team off the floor and game planned accordingly. LLU had just as many turnovers as we did, which tells me that this was a fast-paced contest.
LLU would probably have been better suited if they slowed the game down and made us play in the half court, but they didn't have a lot of interior size.

i think when you have a game in hand and you know you're gonna face a powerhouse like lsu the following night, its wise to rest some of your key players in anticipation of the lsu matchup. it would be a "huge" upset if we can manage to beat lsu on their home court...

Both of them finished with 4 fouls. They may have been in early foul trouble.

Well, DeBlanc only played 7 minutes and Coulter just played 4, so Bibbs might have been resting her bigs for the LSU showdown.

i know those who favor no early season cupcakes won't agree, but we really needed the last two blowouts that we've had against nsu and louisiana lafayette. it took the pressure off the team and it allowed coach bibbs to go deep into her bench. i'm also sure that it gave our ladies confidence that we have someone other than tweet and mona who can score on this team! to me, that's huge! and it helps this team to better understand what its identity is.
but one thing for sure, at the rate that tweet is going, its gonna be awfully difficult for "anyone" in the meac to guard her! i recall during the latter stretch of her "sophomore season", she went on a tear where she was virtually "unstoppable" for several weeks in a row. and i think the only reason she didn't pickup from where she left off when she was a junior is because of the emergence of btj. i think tweet gave way to the seniors btj and ab last year. but i'm very confident that she's capable of ripping off 25 plus points per game when the conference season starts. i think tweet and mona gives us at least two "reliable" go to players in the clutch. i really think we're gonna be hard to beat in the meac if b.u. overall is healthy as a team...

So what's up with Sams? I thought this would be her "come out" year! I thought she would have been able to fill the shoes of AB or BTJ!

I believe she has been slowed by injuries for most of the season.

Jee Sams, (my niece) hurt her lower back in one of the WNIT games, it has been bothering her ever since. Personally I told her it would be best to sit out a few games because your back is nothing to mess with especially as you get older. She was playing in games where she told me it hurt just to raise the ball up to shoot and get a rebound. I think that was the game she was 5-17 or 5-12 something like that from the FT line and some ungodly number from the field. Spoke to her today and she said the back was doing better but the time they are going to get off after the game tonight should do her a whole lot of good. She said she is definitely ready to play tonite, we'll see. No matter what she always wants to play (hurt or not). She has been like that since she started playing basketball. My sister told me last night what was up with Bullock but I don't want to advertise it here because its only hearsay. Don't want to start any rumors here.

Matter of fact, I think I will create some new wallpaper for her.
Wallpaper karma is just what the doctor ordered for a sore back.

Thank you. I am.
I just think she should be playing a little better than she is right now. But if she's hurt, well can't complain.
I did tell her it may take about 6-8 games for her and the team as a whole to start hitting there stride with all the new people and getting to play together as a team in game time situations. There at 8 games now so I hope I'm right about them starting to hit their stride. It would be great if about 8 of them can put everything together tonite against LSU. 3-4 in double figures tonight and good team defense they just might be able to do it. Can't wait to watch it.
