79-63 Final
Marshall just played better perimeter defense in the second half and we just couldn't get a call driving to the hole at all. Overall, this was a decent effort. One thing that stood out for me is Coleman being out-muscled on several rebounds. He had much better footwork inside but still needs to get stronger. Upchurch is a player no doubt and his minutes will increase. Alston and Hill should take a few less three's and go into the lane with a little more control on the road.
Overall, I like this team.

I agree. Alston/Hill 2-15 FG (0-9 3pt), 4 TOs, 1 ASTs, 1 STL Outrebounded 50-39, one dude had 20 in 25 mins.

Eaves will identify the mistakes made and work on them on the next couple of games. They'll be aight in the next couple of matchups.

I payed $10 and watched the game over the internet. Marshall is a good team. They will do ok in conference usa. There were a few bad call but what do you expect. If the box score is correct we only had 11 turnovers I though I saw more than that.
We will be okay. Nice to see both Witter and Upchurch with 5 points on limited minutes. Upchurch 6 reb (3 off) and 5 points in 12 minutes. And 12 points from Nick Simpson. 10 points 13 boards is not a bad game from Coleman. He also had a monster dunk on fast break.
To early to tell but taking all the quick threes maybe find as long as the right person is jacking them up. Early on (including today) Johnson & Simpson shoot pretty well behind the arc. Hopefully Hill & Alston will find there range.

Alston could still be a little sick from the flu. Both he and M Hill will shoot better. I dont think that they will ever have a night that again. They made the 3's look easy in Corbett. Eaves will not frown on an open 3. He mentioned that we could lose the Brevard and win against Miami.
It was a loss, and I wanted us to make a statement against this team. But it was a good run, and a off night for our key guys. It seems like everybody got a chance to run some and bang a bit. Duane Joshua is another player who will shoot with confidence.
Im interested in tue's game. We should show improvement. Add a little home cooking at Corbett on Fri and we should go out west feeling better.

I am planning on making the 4.5 hour drive from Dallas down to Beaumont to see the Lamar game.

ncataggies.com/Mensbasketball/2009-10%20ARTICLES/2AGGIESvmarshall.htmAGGIES LOSE ON THE ROAD TO HERDHUNTINGTON, Wva. – This is not high school or AAU basketball. It is the message North Carolina A&T men’s basketball coach wanted to get across to his young team after a 79-63 loss to Marshall Sunday afternoon at the Cam Henderson Center. Eaves hopes the message was emphasized much more during the game. “Their bench probably wore down my young kids,’’ said Eaves. “My young kids couldn’t quite handle the intensity of a Division I game on this level. That will come as they get more experience.” Thundering Herd sophomore Shaquille Johnson led Marshall with 22 points and three assists. Marshall senior Tyler Wilkerson added 20 rebounds and freshman Hassan Whiteside, a native of Gastonia, N.C., scored 10 points and had five blocked shots off the bench. “He really made a huge difference today,’’ said Eaves about Whiteside. “He made my young players think about attacking the basket. We really hesitated when he was on the floor. If he’s not there, it’s a much closer game.” The Aggies were led by Robert Johnson’s 16 points on 4-for-9 shooting from 3-point range. Thomas Coleman added 10 points and 13 rebounds for his second double-double in as many games. Nic Simpson and Tavarus Alston had 12 points apiece. A Johnson 3-pointer pulled the Aggies to within five, 38-33 at halftime. An offensive rebound and put back by James Porter kept the Aggies close at 52-45 with 13:42 remaining in the game. But Camden Miller started putting some separation between the two teams with a 3-pointer. Back-to-back 3-point plays by Whitehead put the game away. He grabbed an offensive board in transition, scored and was fouled by Johnson. Whitehead’s free throw gave the Herd a 61-48 lead. After another offensive board, he scored and was fouled by Aggie freshman Austin Witter. His 3-point play gave the Herd a comfortable 64-48 lead with 8:57 remaining in the game. The Herd bench outscored the Aggies’ bench 24-13. Guard Darryl Merthie had 14 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and just one second half turnover. “When you get a little winded you’re not as aggressive on the glass and you start putting your hands on people. That gets them to the free throw line,’’ said Eaves. “I also thought they handled our pressure well. We forced just 11 turnovers, which is probably one of the lows during my tenure here at A&T.” The Aggies are in action again Tuesday when they travel to Athens, Ohio to face the Ohio Bobcats at 7 p.m.

A&T's weakness on the boards is a direct correlation to their lack of physical strength as a team. You would have thought Marshall had Dennis Rodman out there on the floor. Also, the young Aggies have to realize not to take a blocked shot personally, its part of the game. Just adjust your shooting and above all stay aggressive.
I like that the Aggies scored 61 points but I wish they would have shot more than 61 times. In their offense the number of shots should be in the high 60's and sometimes in the 70's to give them a much better chance of winning.

...but I wish they would have shot more than 61 times. When Marshall began to close out on the shooters it became more difficult. We were 7-19 in the first half from behind the arc. In the second half we were 1-11.

Thats when we should have gone inside; however I guess Eaves plan is to shoot 3s regardless. Maybe what I don't like about Eaves style is that it is one dimensional; I wish he would consider going inside when the opponent guards against the three. Also to Aggiejazzs point I also wish the team had some perception of toughness. Eaves the ball is in your court; all I want for Christmas is an MEAC championship.
