The Jacksonville Daily NewsWhile he didn’t get to play as much as he’d expected or as much as his coach had hoped, Northside standout Brad Simmons will long remember being part of the 61st annual East –West All-Star football game. “It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance,” Simmons said Thursday after returning home following Wednesday night’s game, which was won by the East 6-0 in Greensboro. “I was glad to be able to experience that.” Simmons, a 2008 first-team all-area selection by The Daily News, had hoped to get to play more than he did – as did his coach, Bob Eason. “I don’t think I got to play as much as I wanted to,” he said. “I guess I did what I could.” But that didn’t dampen his appreciation of being one of 32 players from the eastern part of the state selected for the game. As he did this past season for the Monarchs, Simmons played running back – he rushed for more than 1,300 yards in 2008 – as well as linebacker. No one moment stood out for him during the game, Simmons said, although he will long remember the nearly weeklong preparations for the game. Simmons arrived in Greensboro late last week and joined his teammates for a daily dose of two-a-days in preparation for the game. “It was a tough grind,” he said. “I went through the sore process. But that comes with the game. It was a great experience. It was some hard work, but I was still glad to be part of it.” For the Rest of the Story: northside-jaxmonarchs.olinesports.com/news_details.php?sport=570&news_id=800

They have also added preferred walkon QB C.J. Martin (6-3,200) from Reagan from over in Winston as an insurance policy. He'll be there if they really need him (all three regulars would have to go done) but he will most likely red shirt this year along with Lewis and Fulton.
