GREENSBORO -- Television exposure, much like lottery proceeds, is welcomed even if limited, which is why N.C. A&T is happily preparing for the arrival of the production trucks for Saturday's homecoming football game with Morgan State.
The 1:30 p.m. contest will be aired on the network the MEAC office put together. That means it will be available in the Triad on WGSR-39, an independent station in Rockingham County with a limited signal.
The better opportunities to see the Aggies will come in the two games the university has arranged with Carolinas Sports and Entertainment Television, the regional network established by Black Entertainment Television founder and Charlotte Bobcats owner Bob Johnson. The channel, to be available on Time Warner Digital Cable channel 122 starting Oct. 22, will show the A&T-Howard game Oct. 23 and the Aggies' contest with South Carolina State on Nov. 20.
There is no rights fee associated with the transaction, A&T athletics director Charlie Davis said. Revenue will come from the sale of advertising time, to be parceled out in five spots of 30 seconds each. Davis said he is trying to ascertain the price he'll charge for each spot.
"This is not a deal based on dollars and cents," Davis said. "It gives us a large base of individuals who attend the university, and it's an opportunity to get in front of our fans."
C-SET will be available in cable systems in the Carolinas but not on satellite. Its chief property will be the Bobcats, but it also is in negotiations to show up to five Aggie men's and women's basketball games, Davis said.
"For us, it's a no-lose proposition," he said.
