there were some nice articles in the nr on the nike nationals.. like the one talking about the athletes competing who throw the shot putt over 71ft... thats worth the price of admission in its self...
let me break that down... the nc high school record for the "shot" is 61ft.. set by northern durham hs football great mike salzano in 1975...!!!!
mike went on to have a great collegiate carear at carolina..
but to throw the shot over 71ft in hs..!!!!... these kids are olympic bound...!!!!!!!!!!

chalonda goodmen out of ga... this young lady has world class speed... 11.3 in the 100m... she could have won the ncaa with those times...
but here is the kicker.. in the emerging elite girls 100m.. the 8th grader from detroit who ran 11.8... heck if an 8th grade boy ran 11.8.. thats super fast..
i'd like to see her times when she is a soph or jr... should be off the charts...!!!!

(but to throw the shot over 71ft in hs..!!!!... these kids are olympic bound...!!!!!!!!!!) The weight of the shot goes up when they get to college, they do not always grow enough to continue to throw at the same level.

i felt so sorry for those guys when they dropped the "stick" at the regionals this year. They were hands down favorite to win the State and couldn't even compete in it. They looked devestated Glad to see they made up for it. DAMN, they ran a 3:08 in the 4x4. We place 3rd in the state when I ran and we ran a 3:19. We would have looked slow next to these guys in that race. They also ran 1:28.20 in the 4x2, while we ran a 1:28.39 to win the state. They smokin!

my homeboyz! my high school alma mater! for a town the size of new bern, we kick big time azz!! a couple of years ago we knocked independence off of their multi-consecutive state championship football throne and have since won state indoor as well as state outdoor track championships! not bad for an east coast town of just over 27,000 people. hail to the bears of new bern high!!
