this was a good meet... the score board read that next yr. teams from canada... the uk... & the united arab ameritus are committed...
the more national high schools that show up... along with more athletes from other countries... could really make this a huge event...
maybe get the jamaicans to spend a week here before going to the penn relays...

how many of you have had a chance to see newman & spruiel & the other members of the track team who have qualified for the regionals compete... ? newman & spruiel are 2 of the best in their events in the nation...!!!!!!!... not just the meac... not just the state of n.c.... but in the nation...!!!! but yet you don't read about them in the local newspapers... you don't see any coverage of them on the local tv stations... there is something strange going on with the greensboro media...

that ronnie ash of bcc had everybody wondering... who is this guy... the announcers gave no mention of him until he smoked the field in his semi-final heat in the 110 hurdles... then he smoked them again in the finals... no one mentioned that he was the 60m high hurdles ncaa indoor champ... & no one bothered to mention he was the east regional champ until after his semi-final heat... heck... one of the announcers stated in mcCororys semi final heat "that beard of tx. a&m knows that the only person who can run with her out of that heat is baker from oregon"... then mcCorory sprinted past everybody in the last 100m... then the announcers mention that mcCorory is the 2009 ncaa indoor 400m champion & the east regional champion... why don't these guys do their homework before they dis the kids from the small schools...

big ups to that kid Ash from Cookman. Did they say he was a freshman? truth, I don't think it meant as a dis, they just focused on who they thought would be more intriguing for tv since A&M men and women were trying for the double (and got it). they were trying to build it up for A&M vs Oregon. everybody else got slighted. I remember they interviewed some girl that came in second in her race and totally forgot about the girl that won. just tv homes, don't get too caught up in it.

i think they said ash was a soph... the meac represented well... i didn't see anyone from the swac though...
i understand what you are saying... but if it were me announcing... i would at least mention a regional winner & runner-up... its not like i would be going out on a limb like calling a kentucky derby 50-1 longshot...

I feel ya, truth on the announcing. I didn't see any SWAC schools out there either.

aggielove... its just like being a sports broadcaster.. if there were word class athletes performing in my area.. whatever the sport.. you don't think i'd be on the scene.. i'd be out there in a ny minute.. or they couldn't call me "mr sports"... (that would be my studio name.. sounds more fitting than truthseeker..)

i'm still miffed at the story lines that were missed by the local media during the east regionals...
here are some examples:
3 of 4 on clemsons men east regional championship 4x100 relay team... play football...
phil fords daughter does sprints & jumps for the tarheels... & she is a very good talented athlete...
mcCorory & spruiel finsh 1-2 in the 400m womens finals...
all top 5 national qualifiers in the men 1500m ran 3:41... where else in nc am i going to see this many people who can run the 1500m under 3:40... unless i'm at an olympic trials...
ronnie ash of bcc who not only beat the defending ncaa 110m hurdles champ in the east regional... he also duplicated that feat in the ncaa nationals... during his interview he was very very humble...
these are just a few story lines that were missed ...

there were a lot of ncaa coaches at the USTAF JUNIOR OLYMPICS... & the majority of them were incognito...
i just happened to strike up a conversation with this woman while finding cover from the rain & it turned out she was a track coach for ucla... she said that there were not only ucla coaches thru out the stadium under cover but coaches from other schools as well... so they can find out the true personalities of the kids they will be looking at...
so the best advice i can give young athletes... be on your best behavior at all times... you never know who is out there watching...
