www.hbcusportsblog.com/2008/12/will-aggies-go-all-in-for-next-football-coach/Will Aggies Go All In For Next Football Coach? By JC • on December 3, 2008 The rumors are growing louder and louder about North Carolina A&T and their search for a new head football coach. A source close to the program recently disclosed to the HBCU Sports Blog that the short list of names includes Tuskegee’s Willie Slater, Jackson State’s Rick Comegy, and Prairie View’s Henry Frazier III.Speculation also has a rather large number being floated around for the next head coach’s annual salary. $300K is the generous end of guessing game and $175,000 is the established low-end.Nothing has been reported or confirmed by members of the university or the A&T athletic administration, so it’s all hearsay at this point. But with the Aggies’ recent stretch of football mediocrity, it seems plausible that they are willing to dramatically reverse course by bringing in a big name coach with a history of success. Aggie Pride is a lucrative business venture for the university, and while a big salary may seem ominous, a proven head coach may prove to be just what the program needs for wins and an increase in fan and sponsorship-generated revenues.

those salary quotes leads me to doubt the credibility of this report. $300,000 salary from a school that's financially challenged? i don't think so.
no mention of broadway, but i'm glad to see frazier's name again. maybe slater is supposedly the shocker, but i still don't expect to see him leave tuskeegee (even though i believe this was j. atkinson's senior season)...

Is it possible that someone or a group is willing to write a check we have no inkling of? Just thinking out loud.

If so where were they when we were stuck with Dee Todd and Lee Fobbs?
Paying 175 to 300 large for a football coach while the baseball team can barely recruit 20 minutes north of the NC border and there are qualified guys that would be willing to take much less than six figures is as stupid as the guy that writes that blog. The "A&T has money" crap started as a rumor gone wild on the swacpage (the same message board that sent me an e-mail asking for donations two weeks ago). That is where the writer spends his time.
Wheels is many things, but stupid is not one of them. Only an absolute fool would pay that much for a head coach with all the other financial issues that need addressing in the athletic department.

The Short List Becomes a Little Clearer? Not really. Consider the source.

Well, if we are stupid enough to pay 300k for a HC, then he better be able to turn this program around within the first year and win the MEAC every year afterwards!

personally i don't care very much about what we pay the coach as long as it doesn't come out of the budget of other sports teams and/or any other academic programs.
if we're offering $200,000 grand or more (which is hard for me to believe), we should have a good choice of coaches to choose from. i think frazier would come for a lot less than that...

could that $175k or $300k be a total meant for a 2 or 3 year term?

Frazier is probably the one guy that fits most of our needs and our budget the best. But given the recent history of the decsions made within the athletic department and the football program the past six years, even the most seemingly craziest of rumors can't be entirely discounted.
Lighten up guys. Besides a good rumor mill is like good gossip in the backyard over the clothesline. Keeps your interest up and makes for interesting conversation.
Me, personally, I like Broadway, Frazier, Monroe, or Slater. Any one of those four and I would be happy with and would have no reservations about any of them.

I am all in for Broadway he knows North Carolina and can recruit the state from day-one. All a long we said we wanted some one that could recruit NC. Frazier will not be able to do that from jump street. To my knowledge Frazier has no contacts / connections in NC. Broadway has spent the majority of his career recruiting NC for ACC schools and then Central.
I was also most impressed that Broadway had a couple of freshman on the Grambling team from Durham, NC.
I think Asberry has a shot as well he has established some good NC contacts while at Shaw; their roster is litered with eastern NC picks.
If the new Coach does not have NC ties its going to take at least 3-4 years to challenge for the MEAC title. THe only other route is through Div. I transfers that's what Webster did at Tenesse St. check out their roster.

Webster has very strong NC ties to recruit and also knows how to turn a team around quickly; Broadway would be after Web. Asberry would worry me as the next pick even though he has put together a good program at Shaw.

I agree Webster would not be a bad choice either. I like the fact that he has won a game as a head coach againt an oppenent outside of the MEAC or SWAC. Webster would raid the Division I ranks for trasnfers right off the bat.
I gues Asberry's advantage is; I think he is probably 10 years younger than Broadway or Webster and probably would come cheaper freeing money to get qualified assistants. I.E. Maynor as Off. Coord.
Broadway still my number 1 due to the extensive experience in the State of NC.

If I had a choice it would be Willie Slater. One thing you can't beat is success and he has a lot of it mostly as the number two man (offensive coordinator) and recently as the number one guy (head coach). He has been intimately involved as a coach on 5 national championships and he is now 32-3 as a head coach. He is definitely my top choice.
