Let's tear down Moore Gym, build a new arena connecting to Corbett as an auxilliary Gym. That bulls&^* fitness center would have been a nice parking lot for this idea. that would be a good idea sammiz, but i'm sure we can't afford to tear moore gym down and we sure as hail can't afford to build a new arena (at least not with our own funds). but i like the idea. if we could afford to build a new arena, i'm sure we could find the land on or near campus to do it. but we don't have the funds unless we can fool the state like famu did by convincing them we need a new "physical education" building that seats 10,000 muggs. but i don't see that happening...

but i will say this about the dawg pound. last season when winston came up in there, corbett and the dawg pound was just as electric as cameron that night! corbett was packed and the dawg pound was freakin' ruthless! i don't know if i've ever seen corbett that loud and hyped before! man, wssu's fans got a tremendous ear full that night! and i loved every nanosecond of it! it was as if we took our football frustrations out on them! when rush hit that first 3 pt bomb from dayum near half court, corbett freakin' erupted! it was so tense that there was a crowd reaction to everything that happened on the court! if corbett was like that all the time, then maybe corbett could be discussed in the same sentence as cameron... MEMORIES: When Corbett was ALL BLEACHERS we "squoze" damn near 8,000 poeple in there for a WSSU game. As soon as you showed your ID to get in, sweat started to roll down your temples and it would be 35 degrees outside. People hanging over every rail, sitting on steps, in aisles, in the foyer. We didn't have Blue Reign, but the cheerleaders and pep band could do anything they could do. Corbett has always been smokin' for rivalry games. Now the mission, as you said, is to have that atmosphere no matter who the opponent is. i remember those days maxell! it use to be like a steam room up in there! i agree, if we're only talkin' rivalry games, corbett is in the same league as cameron but still not better. and that's not an insult, there is no other environment better than cameron in my opinion. the thing is though, it gets so heated and tense in corbett that central can't come up in there no more! a fight is almost guaranteed to break out...

Trust me I would much rather play in the Gaines Center than Joel or the Annex, the 2 womens games in the Gaines center we had this year, had over 2,500 ppl, yet put those same 2,500 ppl in the Joel or Annex and there is no atmosphere, but what Chico says, GOES!!!

www.news-record.com/content/2008/12/05/article/editorial_brady_takes_a_big_shotEditorial: Brady takes a big shot Good basketball players take big shots. UNCG Chancellor Linda Brady's got game. She's the driving force behind the university's decision to make the Greensboro Coliseum its home court for men's basketball beginning next season. The initiative, officially announced before an audience of boosters, cheerleaders, basketball players and community leaders Friday, may look like a long shot. Just the night before, the Spartans lost to The Citadel in Fleming Gym with attendance listed at 1,127. What makes anyone think the same team could fill the cavernous coliseum, famous for hosting the ACC Tournament and even a Final Four? But this shot is well-aimed. If it connects, it will score three points -- one each for the university, the coliseum and the city. Brady supports strong efforts to upgrade UNCG athletics and especially men's basketball, the potentially most visible sport. Moving to an outstanding facility is a necessary first step, and the coliseum, just down Lee Street from campus, is an eager host. For $75,000, to be repaid through ticket sales, the coliseum will suit up a locker room and dress out the arena as a Spartan home court -- colors, logos and seating for 7,613. To help draw fans, UNCG will play two or three home games each season with ACC teams. It's hired former ACC official Fred Barakat to arrange that. It also will resume an annual contest with N.C. A&T and try to schedule other nonconference games with regional opponents like Charlotte, East Carolina, UNC-Wilmington, Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth, Barakat said. The university will spend $300,000 for Barakat's services, ISP Collegiate Services and other marketing efforts, Brady said. It's using donated money rather than state funds, she added. The anticipated benefits include improving the student experience, stimulating alumni participation and financial support and raising the university's profile regionally and nationally. Think Davidson -- which will play UNCG at the coliseum Feb. 5. It's a tall order. College basketball fans have plenty of teams to root for, some of them much better than UNCG. Thousands certainly will come to the coliseum to see Duke, N.C. State, Wake Forest or Carolina. It may be difficult to draw much more than a thousand for The Citadel without an exciting home team and effective marketing. Davidson lifted its game with talented players, especially the marvelous Stephen Curry. Maybe UNCG can recruit outstanding athletes by playing in a top venue against strong competition. Brady and the Spartans are taking their best shot.

If nothing else, UNC-G is in the paper again for basically the same story. We can't get a Sunday morning story after a absolutely great win. Best start in what, 10 years, where the H-E-L-L is our feel good story?

Oldeschool, I never said that there wasn't any validity to what you were saying, but I just think it can be waaaaay overrated. Corbett is jumping man. You can get one or two good recruits there. Here is the line in that article that should scare the heck out of UNCG. "There is some risk involved in the move. Fleming, located only steps away from the heart of campus housing, can be a difficult place for opponents. The Spartans will lose the intimacy of a gym, but will try to persuade students to make the quick shuttle ride to Lee Street, where a modern and historically significant arena awaits." Give me a full, jumpin Corbett over an empty coliseum any day. This is a bad move for UNCG. Just think about it, Duke would much rather you come to Cameron than to play in a coliseum. You better believe that. but right after our women play... you will be there to make the place jump...!!!!!

Best start in what, 10 years, where the H-E-L-L is our feel good story? if you haven't figured it out by now... the city has always picked sides... now they have just made it official... which makes it even more critical for administration to give mens bball the support they never have before...!!!!!!!!!!!
