Thornton had a decent year. I assume that the other signees that were mentioned on this thread were redshirted last season.

Do you have 40 pounds of muscle that he can borrow?

At 230 he wouldn't need to add that much. With his quickness he could easily beat half of these fat azz MEAC linemen. Dude was an outstanding run stopper in high school.

At 230 he would still be too light to play DE. Not physical enough at this time to take on big O-lineman. You can say that he may be able to run around them but at some point in time you have got to man up. Having said that, he is an excellent linebacker with room to develop and get better.

Hold on....... does anyone remember Chris Mac, He transfered from NCST...... He has the record for sacks. He was 230lb soaking wet. This is the questions.... Is the young man from INDY quick enough to get around the OT on pass rush? Second does he have enough technice and strength to play the run. I would give him a chance at DE. What do we have to lose. Chris Mac was given a chance. Why not him......

I have to agree with dj98 he can play DE---- being 270lbs would be a plus but the DE at APP. ST. are 230-240lbs and are 1-AA all-americans---- the big key is strength---- being strong as an ox. With strength & speed you can compensate for bulk and we need speed up front.

Va Tech had a kid, I think his name was Corey something or other, he was all american about six or so years ago at d-end and he might've been 220. Tennesee State had a kid in the late 90s that was around 210 that was I-AA all american at d-end.
Heights and weights are why we miss out on a lot of good players. You can't have a team full of runts but you can put a few kids in that are simply overachievers.

You all are talking about exceptions and not the rule. I have seen this kid in depth and I am telling you he cannot play defensive end. He ain't no lineman, doesn't have the mentality.

Well, that's different than blaming it on his size...

Wow! You mean to tell me this kid who excelled at one of the premeire high school programs in the nation at defensive end can't cut it at the same position in the MEAC? Interesting.

If you saw the kid in street clothes, you would think he was a defensive back...

4XL is absolutely right. There is a huge difference fellows for a 6-2 230 high school lineman to run over another pimple faced 16 or 17 year old kid who is a 5-9, 245 tackle on Friday nights versus fighting off a 6-7 340 pound 23 or 24 year old man who is banging on you for 4 straight quarters on Saturday afternoons, speed or no speed.
Big difference.

www.rotarylombardiaward.com/moore.htmThis guy was six feet, 225 pounds as a senior on a team that played for the I-A national championship. He was first team I-A all-america as a junior when he was 215 pounds or so. Lamar Carter was a 1999 I-AA all american at Tennessee State who broke Richard Dent's school records. He was 6'3" and around 215. I guess they weren't aware of the difference that was supposed to keep them from achieving what they did. When we had that guy that transfered from Michigan playing defensive end how many sacks did he get? Maybe a half sack. He was big as a house. Chris McNeil was listed at about 225 and was probably 215 and set a I-AA record for sacks in a season on our own campus. If the kid can play he can play. I doubt any other I-AA in America would frown on a kid with talent just because "he don't look good." If he can play he can play, period. If he can't he can't. It won't be because he doesn't fit the prototypical size. It might be because we don't seem to have good coaching.

Do we shop for players in Florida? I found this on the MESSAGE BOARD of our friends in Tallahassee. I see some excellent defensive prospects here...TAKE A LOOK. sunshinepreps.net/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,1/limit,4/limitstart,8/
