Knotts ponders his futureIndependence High football coach Tom Knotts said he is giving serious consideration to this being his final season coaching the Patriots. Knotts coached eight seasons at Harding and 11 at West Charlotte. This is his eighth season at Independence, where he has won six state championships. His Patriots (1-0) will play a big game at rival West Charlotte (2-1) Friday. “I think seven or eight years at one place is really enough for any coach or administrator,” Knotts said, not wanting to elaborate. In his career, which includes a season as a Duke assistant, Knotts has developed a system of winning that is chronicled in a new book, “Gridiron Dynasties,” which profiles 12 of the nation's most successful high school programs. What struck me were some of the differences between Knotts' program and the others. Independence's facilities don't compare and neither does its fan base.
Knotts assembled a program that once won 109 straight games and seven state titles without similar talent as most of his national peers (defensive coordinator Bill Geiler coached the 2004 champions while Knotts was at Duke). The most major-college recruits Independence has produced in a year under Knotts is threewww.charlotteobserver.com/sports/story/182652.html

Naw, I think he would only accept a head coaching job. He's already had plenty of offers as an assistant. I suspect he'll end up as head coach at an FCS, D-II or high school team again.

I'd be looking for a change too after being the ring leader of a cheating scandal. I'm still not impressed by the man. This scandal will follow him no matter what he does.

What freakin scandal? The school board spent $90,000 dollars investigating him and the school and came up with nothing. Read the article. Indy has some of the poorest facilities in the state. This year his team has been decimated by defections but I'll bet they go deep into the state playoffs again. In 2000 when he came aboard he took a team full of sophmores and led them to the 4A championship. Name one other coach that could have done that!

Their running back's moms works with me. I don't know if the kid can play worth a darn but since he's only a 10th grader I've been leaning pretty hard on her to make sure to at least have him look at A&T.
As for Knotts, he's probably tired of not getting paid what he's worth. I get the feeling he couldn't really work as a coordinator under somebody because he seems like the type of dude that will call bs out when he sees it.

Richmond (County) HS, should just suck it up and hire Knotts. If you can't beat him, hire him.

I really think Knotts will go to another high school that hasn't had a lot of success just to prove that he can duplicate his results anywhere. Folks forget that he's taken Harding, W. Charlotte and Indy to the state championships.

Flash, don't be ridiculous, Fobbs will win 7-8 game this year and he has brougt in some talented athletes to A&T which George Small didn't do well at. Another good recruiting year and the continued use of both offensive and defensive coordinators and A&T will be in the FCS playoff next year, if not this year.

I highly doubt that he will get 7-8 wins this year or go to the playoffs. You are a little too optimistic. Is this the best team that hes had since hes been here??...of course. They beat two teams that suck and you really believe they will get 7-8 wins this year. If they beat norfolk and hampton then I'll believe....until then get Fobbs a$$ outta here!!

flash,
let's talk about this again in about 10 weeks. Also, now that fobbs is winning let's hope he doesn't leave A&T. Remember, we now have a lot of talent. Just like Billy Hayes, fobbs can recruit which means Victories. Again, we'll talk again in 10 weeks.
