Arrived at my precincts polling place with my wife at about 6:30a.m. It was a sight that made me brim with pride like I never really have before. There was a line that LITERALLY wrapped around the school that we were voting at. The school across the street from us had a line that was even larger....and it was 99% US (of course I returned to Baltimore to vote so you would expect chocolate faces everywhere). It took us almost two hours to vote.
I am so proud right now. I have never seen black folks turn out in mass like this to support their cause and a vision that my ancestors would have never even dreamed of. Hell...my parents could never have dreamed of.
I'm feeling really good today...

Early voted three weeks ago. Keeping my fingers crossed and praying hard. Never in my lifetime did I ever think this could be possible. I couldn't sleep or eat all last night and can't wait to see the returnsm this evening.
Can reasonable Americans actually put their "race first" baggage aside and just once vote in their own self interests and move from the neocon facism of the last 30 years started by Reagan to the progressive politics of the future?
The answer to that question will known in about seven hours or so.

hometown news:
Watha woman, 108, casts ballot in early election
By Shannan Bowen Staff Writer
Published: Friday, October 17, 2008 at 8:37 p.m. Last Modified: Friday, October 17, 2008 at 8:46 p.m. Carrie Etta Walker, of Watha, was 20 years old when women were given the right to vote and almost 64 when the Civil Rights Act outlawed segregation in public places.
Contributed photo Carrie Etta Walker was first eligible to vote 88 years ago.And at 108 years old, Walker voted Friday in a historical election where the outcome will be either the first woman vice president or the first black president.
Walker voted for Sen. Barack Obama, her caregiver, Jerritt Boney, said.
“She was very excited,” said Boney, who went with Walker to the one-stop voting site in Burgaw.
Boney said Walker wore an Obama pin when she went to vote, and “She said, ‘Obama, Obama!’”
Boney said Walker, who often tells stories of being banned from buying bread in stores because she was black, was excited about a black man running for president and the possibility that he could live in the White House.
“She was just amazed that he was an African-American,” Boney said.
Boney said Walker votes every year and reads about politics in the newspaper every day.

Got back from voting a little while ago. Wish I could say I was brimming with the same kind of pride that Freeze was, but I live in Wonder Bread-ville (Loudoun County, VA), so there's not many of US's around. Took me 10 minutes b/c I wenr when everybody else was at work.

At 114, a daughter of former slaves votes for Obama -------------------- Gertrude Baines is the world's oldest person of African descent. She cast her ballot at a convalescent facility near USC. By Tami Abdollah November 4 2008, 10:36 PM PST Gertrude Baines' 114-year-old fingers wrapped lightly over the ballpoint pen as she bubbled in No. 18 on her ballot Tuesday. Her mouth curled up in a smile. A laugh escaped. The deed was done. The complete article can be viewed at: www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-baines5-2008nov05,0,1853339.story
