C-SET To Launch On October 16 With College Football Doubleheader
Carolinas Sports Entertainment Television will launch on Saturday, October 16, 2004 and the network will carry a 10-game college football package, including three doubleheaders, it was announced by C-SET Executive Vice President of Media Rights and Entertainment, Naomi Travers.
“Our commitment to showcasing the best of the Carolinas sports is represented by our launch of the network with a live, one-hour college football preview show and a college football doubleheader, with each game originating from the Carolinas and featuring teams from Carolinas,” said Travers. “We started this network with the Carolinas sports fan in mind. This schedule exclusively covers Carolinas college football action and we are excited to provide quality Carolinas sports entertainment.”<br>
C-SET will commence service on Saturday, October 16 with a one-hour college football season preview show at 1 p.m., telecast live from Paladin Stadium at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, followed by a live Southern Conference contest between Furman and The Citadel. Later that evening, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) teams Bethune-Cookman and South Carolina State complete opening-day action with a tape-delayed broadcast at 7 p.m.
The remaining C-SET college football schedule includes a live telecast of MEAC rivals Howard and defending conference champion North Carolina A&T on October 23 at 6:30 p.m. from Aggie Stadium in Greensboro. A doubleheader will air on October 30, with a 2 p.m. kickoff between Army and East Carolina from Greenville, North Carolina, followed by a tape-delayed 6 p.m. telecast of Big South Conference members Gardner-Webb and Coastal Carolina.
One of the top matchups in Division I-AA football will be on C-SET when second-ranked Furman hosts third-ranked Georgia Southern in a key Southern Conference game on November 6 at 2 p.m. The third doubleheader of the season will air on November 13, when Gardner-Webb travels to Charleston Southern for a noon game, followed by the “Battle for the Old Mountain Jug” at 4 p.m., when Appalachian State visits Western Carolina.
The last game on the C-SET schedule takes place on November 20 from Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, as South Carolina State takes on North Carolina A&T in the Carolinas Classic at 2 p.m.
C-SET’s first affiliate is Time Warner Cable and the network will be distributed as a digital basic channel on all Time Warner Cable systems throughout North and South Carolina and parts of Tennessee. Time Warner Cable, the region’s dominant cable system operator, covers 60% of the total 2.7 million cable households in the Carolinas and currently reaches approximately 600,000 subscribers with its digital basic service. Cable subscribers interested in receiving C-SET that are outside of the Time Warner region should contact their local cable operator for subscription information.
In addition to C-SET’s college football lineup, the network is also home to the Charlotte Bobcats, with 60 live games and off-the-court programming for the inaugural season of both the team and the network. Bobcats original programming will include a weekly team show, an in-depth look at the formation of the team’s inaugural roster, a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the selection of Emeka Okafor – the team’s first-ever draft pick – and the story of the creation of the Bobcats Dance Team. C-SET’s first Bobcats game will be broadcast on Friday, October 22, as the Bobcats host Portland in a preseason matchup.
