Reading this just makes me SMH... My best memory of A&T Basketball was when we broke our losing streak in '06 on National TV.
We stormed the court that day.

Man, that A&T-Norfolk St game was the GREATEST college game ever played. I was a young buck but I remember it well. George Mack, Carl Hubbard, Teddy Campbell, Daryl Cherry, CJ Montgomery for "T". "Pee Wee" Kirkland, James "Hook Shot" Grant, Bobby Dandrige for NSU!!! Best game I've seen ANYWHERE!!!!

Could Coleman be consideed one of the schools alltime geats? No disresepect to Coleman but he had a very outstanding career at A&T but the guys to be considered greatest had: 1...ability to electrify the crowd 2. ..played on some great teams that dominated 3...started as freshmen and as eiither ROY and/or 1st team All Conference within two years of hitting campus Now if you say the greatest shotblocker of all time .... no doubt Coleman! BTW, Coleman is putting up monster numbers this year and I think he was capable the other three years also....

Daryl "Luck Pot" Cherry was a great BB player. He was better than Sparrow by a big margin. He could shoot with the best of them. Cherry was very good in 3 sports. He was just as good on the football field and he played for the Dallas Cowboys. He was drafted out of high school at West Charlotte to play pro baseball but chose to come to A&T. To me, he was the best all round athlete to compete at 'T'. He passed several years ago.

Darryl Cherry w/o a doubt was the GREATEST all-around athlete in the history of A&T. This means person who played mutiple sports. His natural God-given talent was something to see because what God gave him, somebody else had to be cheated cause the man was a MONSTER, before their were MONSTERS!!!!!! Wide receiver/running back in football-All-CIAA. Shooting guard in basketball-All-CIAA. Drafted in 2 sports--ended up going to the DALLAS COWBOYS back in the day when they had a QUOTA on the number of black players they would allow on the team. DC was BLOOD RAW and a BEAST!!!! May he rest in peace! BORN and BRED

I knew Darryl well. We played against each other in the Black Shrine Bowl (1965). We (East) held Darryl in check all game but he showed flashes that he was really good. The East won that game. At A&T Darryl proved all the hype about him was really true. He was damn good!!

Someone mentioned Elmer "Flute" Alston---"Flute" was one of the most fundamentally sound basketball players that ever played. He was 6'4" but because of ball knowledge and PURE desire. He was among the leaders in CIAA in scoring and rebounding. He was a great athlete and a even better person and teammate. He REPRESENTED well but I would have to say Al Attles was the best to ever play for A&T. Google Al if you have never heard of him. He was the best in my opinion.

Sad to say, we have not had really good players since the Corbett era; but in defense, that was prior to the NCAA consolidating the rules and making all schools play by the same rules..In the 80's it was reported that Joe Binion was supposed to go Syracuse and Eric Boyd was supposed to go to Maryland...Their loss was definitely our gain..Thanks for all of the memories...

not a good comparison..binion was three time player of the year... understood, but that's primarily because we were winning championships during binion's era. and he had a much better supporting cast than coleman. had coleman played to his potential the last 3 years, he would've been 1st team all meac for the last 3 seasons. nonetheless, i'm not saying coleman is as good or better than binion was, though one could make that argument. i'm just saying they had similar styles of play...

respectully, where is the argument for binion vs coleman ? forget the 3 time player of the year award..the man got drafted by the NBA, and even played in a few games with Portland...now I havent seen coleman nearly as much as i saw joe binion( i saw joe from 80-83) and coincidentally, I was living in ny when he played for portland and he got in a few minutes vs the knicks...
my point is not a binion or coleman issue...we just have to be careful when we make comparisons..we have had several coleman's in the old days..L J Pipkin is one of the first to come to mind..6-9 long, and could shoot and rebound..Marvin Brown is another..antoine collins also was tough around the basket...comes to mine first hand..
Now finally, I like Coleman, and we need for him to play good for us to get to that 3rd game in the tournament, and I think he will ! !

Best Players I have seen play from 1965 to present ... Teddy Campbell, George Mack, Carl Hubbard, Allen Spruill, James Outlaw, Elmer Alston, Lonnie Klutz, June Harris, Sparrow, Daryl Cherry and many more. James Sparrow is not even in the top 20.
