My top Aggie Players I have seen excluding Al Attles FOWARDS Joe Binion AND The Bird Centers LJ Pinkin and Harold Royster GUARDS Eric Boyd Joe Browner Thomas ICE Honorable Mention Jimmy Brown My High Flyer the late Kenny Cox Dude would end most Games with some spectacular....Dunks Best pure shooter Rush,Boyd and Chuckie Becton NOTE: Bird(6-6)was a 2-guard, Pipkin(6-9) and Royster(6-8) were forwards/center. Sinclair Colbert(6-11) was a center during that era and led the nation averaging double digit rebounds per game. Those were some great teams! One year we were 27-1. |

One year we were 27-1. bird played both positions, the 2 and the 3, depending on who else was in the game at the time. but you're correct, his primary position was the "2". at that time, we had one of the "tallest" starting lineups at any level in college basketball. usually bird played the 2 when colbert, ron johnson, and pipkin were in the game. but initially, pipkin was not a "full time" starter, that's when bird would move to the 3... |

My all-time favorite guard duo that I actually saw play was JUNE HARRIS and AL CARTER, who played for Cal Irvin back in the late '60s. Al Carter got hurt in a game probably during his junior season in a fall (that was much like the one NCSU's David Thompson had in an NCAA playoff game), suffered a severe head injury and was really never the same player after that.
June Harris spent a short period of time playing for Bill Russell in Seattle. They did not get along, from what I was told.
My second favorite guard duo was DOC ANDERSON and RON STITCHCOMB, who played for Don Corbett in the early '80s.

Gator, I saw Spruill a few years back. I tried to get him to GHOE. I saw this Baller vs Central, when I was in high school. He was a current day student of Marques Haynes, Curly Neal, when he needed to turn it on. Also I saw a tape of him vs Marvin “the human eraser “ Webster, running on a machine in the Union of the tournament. Marvin would block your shot and they would start a fast break off of it. Spruill told me that he had to shoot the ball almost “ laying down “ ( fading away so hard)…from Marvin! I love this post. |

lol it was not mine. I would think that the athletics dept has it . it was on a u-matic player ( father of VHS/Betas)

Anybody believe Allen Spruill ain't in the A&T Hall of Fame? Neither is James Outlaw. Neither is the only person to be Player of the Year in the CIAA and the MEAC, the one and only Elmer Austin!

Spruill was almost parallel with the floor on that shot 😆 Moore Gym erupted all of use football players sitting on the east side bleachers went nuts when that shot finally came down and in 😆 Marvin was pissed 😆 |

George Mack
Allen Spruill

LJ Pipkins

We have had a great tradition in basketball with coaching, championships and tremendous players.
When Coaches Cal Irvin and Coach Corbett coached a 20 plus win season was a gimmie. Now days we can't win "jack".
The pipeline for today's coaches has dried up in getting top players. Cal and Big House " Go North Young Man" mentality reaped great players. Coach Corbett went up the way also.
Our present coaches with 100 assistants and don't even have to teach classes are a joke compared to our great past coaches.
With approximately 500,000 kids (males) playing hoops we should be able to recruit 14 great players. For some damn reason we can't.
Same goes for the ladies team.
