Joe Howell, out of Philly, is standing next to Cal holding two trophies. He finished in 1960. He and Al were a tremendous backcourt duo. Too bad that most of you missed the greatness of the CIAA. Remember due to segregation during the forties through the sixties, all the talent was in the CIAA, SIAC and SWAC. Only a very small number went to the very big schools (Far west, Mid-west and North East) that were not in the South or Southwest and even many of those schools did not have black players. The pros also did not have many.

Thanks for the kind words about my farther in law. Joe Cotton was not only an outstanding athlete, he was the same as a person. I last saw him when he was a grad student in the seventies.

This is probably mid-to-late 1960s. Does anyone have any names (outside of Coach Irvin) and a timeline on this photo?? For the life of me, I can't recall the name of the player kneeling in front of Coach Irvin. I believe that Hornsby Howell is on the back row of this photo, too.

This is Joe Echols, NCA&T's men's basketball coach in 1949. Yes...it's the same Joe Echols whose name is on Norfolk State's basketball arena.

Wilt Chamberlain attends an Aggie basketball game in Moore Gym in 1966. I can't remember the name of the boxer next to Wilt, though.

For the life of me, I can't recall the name of the player kneeling in front of Coach Irvin. I believe that Hornsby Howell is on the back row of this photo, too. You would be looking at former team captain, Asst. Coach, and famed NBA Official Hugh Evans next to Cal. I do remember some of the players Maurice McHartley (ABA), Warren Davis (ABA), James Jackson, George Mack, James Webber, Robert Saunders, and perhaps Wiley Briggs and Skinner. This photo would probably have been taken in in early sixties maybe 1963 or 1964. You know that the ABA eventually merged with the NBA.
