That just tells you how good "Beatdowns Unlimited" really was. Those teams were amazing. Imagine that team with the post players we have now. Smalley was a beast at 5'10" playing the post.

No question Bird was great. However, the best player in A&T history has to be Joe Binion. Joe was a 3 time MEAC Player of the Year, A&T career leader in both points and rebounds and among A&T career leaders in blocks and steals. His teams won 3 MEAC Championships and went to 3 NCAA Tournments and 1 NIT. While you have got to give props to James Sparrow and Joe Binion, you are leaving out two guys who played together and won 4 MEAC Championships and they are Thomas Ice Griffis and Claude Williams. While Joe was the 3 time MEAC Player of the Year and the career leader in Points and Rebounds, Joe never played against the competition that Claude played against Claude got the best of Rony Sikely and Derreck Coleman, Claude played even with Waymon Tisdale, Claude outplayed Georgia Techs bigs in the late 80's. And Claude and Thomas are the winningest Aggies of All Time. But, don't forget about George Cale and Eric Boyd they were ballers as well.

I agree that Joe Binion and James Sparrow were great. I watched both play and they were for real. I know the argument is that Joe was the 3 time MEAC Player of the Year and the all time leading Aggie scorer and rebounder, but don't forget about two guys who played on the same team and won 4 straight MEAC Championships: Claude Williams and Thomas Ice Griffis. Claude played against some of the best competition that the NCAA had to offer, he got the best of Rony Sikely and Derek Coleman when the played in the NCAA tournament, he outplayed Waymon Tisdale when A&T played Oklahoma, and he outplayed the James Forest from Georgia Tech when they played. Thomas Griffis may be the best point guard to ever do it at NCA&T plus he and Claude are part of the winningest group to play at the University.

With regard to the debate about who is the best female player of all time i see BTJ, Amber Bland, Amber Calvin and all were all time greats with the program, but Malvetta Johnson was a game changer for the Aggies. She was 6'3 could run the floor, could shoot the 10 to 15 footer, who had the best post game of any Aggie of all time. To further analyze the Lady Aggies Tonia McIntyre shot it as well as anybody in the History of the School man or women, against UNC-G she hit a Harlem GlobE Trotter bounce pass in for two. She hit a three pointer from a sitting position in a game, she and Malvetta were suppose to take the Aggies to the next level but she was unable to play her last two years. But definitely don't forget Sheila Rivers in the early to mid 80's. and What about the first lady aggie to win MEAC player of the year Angela Hill a 5'10 Power Forward who was unstoppable and who led the Lady Aggies To their first MEAC Championship.

Al Attles.....for his on the court days and later for coaching the Warriors to the NBA Championship in 1975 and later for being a administrator in the front office. Bird Sparrow......on the court accomplishments and supa entertainer.
Al was drafted in the 5th round by the Philly Warriors in 1960. His number 16 is one of 6 Warrior playas who has had his jersey retired. Nicknamed "The Destroyer", Al was known for his "skin tight" defense and the way he ran the team from the point guard position. Wilt Chamberlain (7' 1" 295lbs.), known as the strongest man in the NBA said, "There's only one guy that I would never fight and that happens to be 'The Destroyer', Al Attles".
Wilt in 1962 scored 100 pts. and Al had a perfect game from the field shooting 8 for 8 FG's and 1 for 1 FT's. for a total of 17pts. Al's Warrior jersey is one of 6 retired from the team since it's founding. Additionally Al's A&T jersey (#22) was retired a few years ago.
Al has been with organization for over 50 years and along with NBA TV commentator and former coach Hubie Brown was honored with the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award and belongs to the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame.
Because of Al's age most have never heard of him but I have to argue that he accomplished more than any HBCU playa. Bird was like supa man without the cape and Al was the "trailblazer" who paved the path.
The "Pink Panther" (Bird) should be recognized with having his A&T jersey (#20) retired. Two different playas from two different generations. I will take these two cats against any two other HBCU playas and like my chances.

Binion would have to be the greatest if you are following the narrative of the best in A&Ts history hands down. Now if your saying greatest at A&T and on to pro ball Big A would be your man . College wise Binion is your man.
