Ok, I know not winning is a tough pill to swallow even for only the HC Aggie. But did we intentionally put Johnson C. Smith as the first game of the year to end the Streak? Seems to me as if we took more Aggie Pride in the schedule than coaching and recruiting? ... But please correct me if i'm wrong

You're right. The sad part is, nobody is sure we'll end The Streak (I'm start capitalizing it) against these cats.
These types of things happen when you make mistakes in hiring.

Personnally, I think it was a good move. If we dont beat these dudes then who are we going to beat?
As far as selling out goes............well I've personally thought we should play all in-state non-conference foes. That leaves them, Elon, Catawba, App, or the rest of the NC CIAA teams. Who would you rather play out of that bunch? It's already proven that playing Elon is a waste of time. we dont want none of App right now and Catawba would be worst than playing Elon. So NO, I dont think its selling out.

The big D-1A programs have always put these so-called easy win D-1AA teams on their schedule but App State might have made a lot of them think twice. I guess we feel that a D2 team will be an easy win for us. JCS could very well be our App State!!!!!

I think a few of you are missing the point. Does it make you feel Proud(Pride) Aggie... If your getting beat up from the 10th to 12th grade so you go down to middle school and whoop someone's azz? Your still not addressing the problem yea we would look good to get that Ohfer off our backs but in the grand scheme of things what have we actually done? To think that our program has to as it seems go out of there way to pick up a lower level CI team to get a victory. That show that we are failing as a program.

Aggie Monster.... What do you think about us dropping out of the MEAC, and just playing all the teams in greensboro, Guilford College, Dudley, Grimsley? I'm sure we could handle them .. but would we ever get better?

I thought our 27 game losing streak showed that we are failing as a program.

Tru dat! But we are not solving the problem by playing JC Smith. We used to Whooop up on App., but they turned there program around not only by scheduling but by in state recruiting and coaching

i think scheduling a d2 team is a good idea. if we're "mentally" prepared, i expect that we should beat jcsu. there's an awful lot of pressure that comes with a 27 game losing streak. nobody wants to be the team that a&t breaks their streak against. but a win, even against a d2 team, will relieve lots of pressure off the team. plus, even though it'll only be 1 game, if we win the team will start the season undefeated and with a winning record for the first time in several years. it will give our aggies confidence heading into the wssu game, a game i personally think we can win.
look, i know its not pretty playing a d2 team to open the season, but we use to do it every year when we played the aggie-eagle classic. so its no big deal. in addition, several other meac schools play d2 teams almost every season and they're not on a long losing streak. howard (vs. cheyney), norfolk (vs. va. state), and scsu (vs. benedict) come to mind.
so it doesn't bother me at all that we're playing jcsu as our season opener. what would bother me is if we lose! it would literally be unbearable for me. but i've got confidence in our guys. despite a heartbreaking defeat the week before, i like the way they're mentally tough enough to pick themselves up, play extremely hard and fight every week for a victory. i think they're hungry enough for a win that they won't overlook jcsu…

The way we have played in the last 2 years, maybe our "own size" is D2.

i really don't think it helps anything to bash our own team, despite the losing streak. those guys get enough of that from all the other schools. its not like they're losing on purpose and like it or not, they're still aggies! we need to encourage and support these guys! any aggie that can't do that is a part of the problem!

Aggie Monster.... What do you think about us dropping out of the MEAC, and just playing all the teams in greensboro, Guilford College, Dudley, Grimsley? I'm sure we could handle them .. but would we ever get better? You cant compare scheduling a D2 school to dropping out the MEAC. We lost 27 straight and we need a win to get moral up. I aint ashamed 1 bit. I dont think I'll be talking much trash when/if we beat JCS, but at least we'll be back on track. Now if we schedule JCS after two 8-10 win seasons then thats backwards progress. Right now, I just call it regrouping. Anyone Remember how good Wake Forest got after whopping our a$$? Didn't they win the ACC after that? They could have looked at it the same way we are looking at JCS. Sometimes you just need a pick me up. I hope JCS is ours! The team played hard last year. We were a WR and some QB mistakes away from about 4 wins. So I think this game will allow them to make some of those mistakes and still win. That will give them time to corrrect them with their heads up.

Uh, actually Wake went 4-7 and were at the rear of the ACC the year they beat us. Maybe we can do the same. In fact, I'm almost sure of it.
Last year (and the year prior) we were an offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, head coach, and athletic director away from about any wins. Since three of the four have been shored up (at least I guess they have, since we don't announce anything either) I expect a better showing.
neon, I was with you until that statement, but now I have to "Dodge" you. We beat App once in our history and the average score they beat us by was like 42 to 6. When we beat them they had a losing record.
If the team doesn't want to get bashed, start winning. I've typed it before and I'll type it again, winning cures ALL ills. The Streak has only served to make us sicker. If we were winning nobody'd give a flying flip if we admitted a masturbator to school and employees were stealing money and the chancellor ran off with some paintings that were his in the first place.
The Streak and the resulting need to buy a hoped for "w" show how poor leadership was. To think you can replace a coach with anybody, keep the budget the same for six years, and still expect to get wins is preposterous.

I don't think i'm making my point clear! I think that we are not resolving the problem. I said we are selling out b/c it doesn't seem as if we are pointing the fingers at the right place. I'm not calling the kids out or JCS for that matter. So what if we beat them and 3 other teams this year, 5 teams next year, 6 the next. Thats not tradition thats not a powerhouse. We need to look at recruiting, coaching and other areas. So what if we win a game! We still won't be working our way to be an App. St.
I played Ball at A&T i'v played at Boone.. And you can't tell me with our facilities and campus we can't bring in some of the NC talent that goes to App. So we don't need to focus on who we are playing. It needs to be more on who is playing for us and who is coaching them

We've actually got a whole section on here called "Fire Fobbs" that echoes your sentiments (albeit with a lot less civility than you're putting forth).
Sadly, you'll still find folks on here that think our current coach deserves every opportunity he can get to continue The Streak. The lethargy surrounding the program and the school in general is the problem.
Were you aware that everybody's favorite chancellor did not increase the athletics budget one penny in six long years? That has as much to do with The Streak as the coach.
We'll never be an App State for too many reasons for me to enumerate hear. Just know we don't have the budget to compete on the division I-AA level, neither do the teams we play on a yearly basis, and it shows year after year. Now if we increased our budget and moved to division II I could see us making some power moves nationally. But since that ain't gonna happen...
