its unfortunate, but our schools have a long history of brawls. and almost everyone of them were "started" by central, just last year's football game. i attended a brawl in durham at mcdougald gym, this was around '79 or '80, an aggie literally round housed the eagle mascot and knocked his mascot head completely off. as you would expect, all hail broke out. it was ugly. its never good when this kind of thing happens. i remember driving back to greensboro that night in the snow. even though our rivalry is just as intense with winston, i don't ever remember us having any fights with wssu. either they have a lot of class and dignity, or they're bunch of punks…

I was working as an Aggie Club usher right beside the steps above the pep band. Some students from Central in the upper level stands behind me got beat by about 15 A&T students. They started fighting near the top of the stands and rolled all the way down to the floor level. While this was going on, the tuba player decided to use his tuba as an instrument of pain on somebody head. At this point , I decided it was time for me to find a safe place to watch all of the action.

I was there. I was sitting behind Centrals bench about five rows up. Some guy from Central in front of me picked up a chair and began to smash it on someones head. When the announcer said leave the gym the game was over I did. What I witnessed outside was much worse. The Trashing of cars that had the Central logo was horrible. One young lady was driving by herself and the crowd threw a trash threw her back window. She was so afraid she started crying. The fights spilled outside of the gym onto the strip. You could here the police sirens coming from all directions. I believe they had the entire campus surrounded. I watched the rest of the details from home on the news!

I dind't think it was bad enough to make the national news. I was shocked when I saw the story on the Today Show the next morning.

Decks, it made numero uno on Channel 2 Action News' 25 most shocking news stories of the year in Atlanta. That's when I saw the clip. And it looked pretty wild to me.

Does anyone know the name of the guy from NCCU that ran onto the court and attacked the Aggie basketball player? Again, that's what started everything. It was hard for me to beleive he didn't get arrested.

I was a freshman at Norfolk State when my roommate ran down the hall and screamed, "Your sister's(Central) and brother's(A&T) schools are fighting on Good Morning America!!!!"
I got the blow-by-blow from my sister and cousin later.
My sister had just walked into Corbett when the big fight broke out. I heard there were several smaller fights before the free-for-all broke out on the gym floor.
My cousin told me that some idiot thought it would be a good idea to turn the lights out.

these are the types of things that makes this rivalry unique... there is lots & lots of money out there both schools could capitalize on if they had people like don king or vince mcmann spearheading the money making machine... but our leaders act like they don't have a brain for business or is scared to make money... maybe they are waiting for mens basketball to do it all...
this is something the business departments from both schools should be addressing... this is something phill mcalphine should be addressing... forget him... this is something the ADs should be addressing...!!!!!!!!!

I think and let me know if I'm wrong early to mid 90's. The game was played in the Dean Dome and they beat the brakes off us. I think it was Corbett's last year. Someone let me know.

We consistentley played them in the 90's, starting in '92-93 my freshman year, in the Greensboro Coliseum. At least until '98. After that there were a couple of games that were played in Charlotte.

Looking at the media guide, we last played Central during '02-03 (1-26 season). We lost 72-74.

Looking at the media guide, we last played Central during '02-03 (1-26 season). We lost 72-74. that information is a sad reminder that administratively, something is/was seriously wrong when your men's basketball team goes 1-26 as a member of the meac. and the women weren't much better, 7-22. then three years later your football team embarks on a 0-27 losing streak. those are your three largest revenue producing sports...
