Now presenting those individuals that are on team FIRE RUMP….The top ten NOT coaches in HBCU football 2007-08
*Most have prob already seen this...
Please not that 50% of the coaches placed on the 2006-07 were terminated by their institution and two coaches (Ruben Carter and Steve Wilson) that were originally slated for this list has already been axed.
1. Lee Fobbs, Jr. (NC A&T) has AGGIELAND a buzz with groups of disenchanted fans and supporters looking for the blood of the destructors of AGGIE Pride. All he’s done is go 0-22 after four years out of a MEAC championship. Sorry Aggie fans… I think the Aggies need to look at its administration and internally for their problems. First question, why hire a coach that has very little knowledge about A&T, its’ culture, fan base and has not ties to the state where recruiting is key? Second question, why take state funds from a championship program before he arrived and pay an untested coach such a large amount so that he cannot hire proper coordinators? Although I agree that Fobbs must go (because he was set up for failure). Please don’t blame him alone. That’s like blaming a blind man for walking into a women’s restroom. He knew what he had to do. He knew where to do it, but maybe he was in the wrong place. Does that make him wrong? Coach Fobbs was ranked #1 on the 2006-07 NOT list.
2. Wade Streeter (Miles) has simply had the Golden Bears spiraling downward, but the ironic thing is that Miles actually won the 2006 SIAC title. They lost the same 2006 SIAC title by playing an ineligible player. Simply put, it’s time to go in a different direction. Streeter’s 2007 record was 2-9, but 0-7 in conference. Include the fact that the bears are 35-39 in seven years and that’s ballgame. Coach Streeter was not ranked on any of the 2006-07 lists.
3. Ted Bahhur (Clark Atlanta) should understand that the rest of the SIAC is stepping up their collective games to compete with the conferences big three (ASU, FVSU, and TU). He must do the same at Clark. In three seasons, CAU has compiled an 11-21 record and the university is constantly upgrading it campus to make it more appealing to student. Bahhur must do better recruit in the ATL and Georgia as a whole. Frankly, Clark has everything thing it needs to jump to Division I but, infrastructure and leadership in athletics. The alumni base is huge, but does not support the universities sports due to the array of events to spent their time and money on in Atlanta. Teed could change all of that with creative marketing and wins. Look for 2008 to be his year of accountability based on wins and losses. Coach Bahhur was not ranked on any of the 2006-07 lists.
4. Willie Totten (Mississippi Valley State) has lived of his name and fame long enough. Yes, it’s true that Mississippi Valley State football is Totten and Rice, but now it’s time to look to the future. Many of the new recruit only believe what they see on TV and when was the last time you seen a replay involving either one of them. Totten has generated 4.2 wins per season ending the 2007 season with a 25-41 record over six campaigns. The Delta Devils must reorganize or be minimized. I think some of the other SWAC institutions realize football is big business so why can’t we at least be average. Why not Devils? Coach Totten was not ranked on any of the 2006-07 lists.
5. Kenny Philips (Fayetteville State) has credentials that would make most coaches cry with joy. His accomplishments include 2004 Pigskin Coach of the Year (Washington, D.C. award), 2003 CIAA Championship, 2002 CIAA Championship, 2002 CIAA Coach of the Year, 2002 Championship Game - Most Outstanding Coach, 2002 Pigskin Coach of the Year (Washington, D.C. award). Yet, did you notice there’s nothing past 2004. That means he’s under what have you done for me lately category. Philips record since 2004 is an abysmal 13-17 and there isn’t any indication that the record will improve anytime soon. Coach Philips was ranked #5 on the 2006-07 NOT list.
6. James Webster (Tennessee State) has maintained a level of mediocrity that real TSU fans are not accustomed to when it comes to football. The Big Blue supporters know that we return a lot of weapons on offense (minus C. Johnson ) and loose a lot on D, but Webster must come through and give people something to stand up again with pride. James has also improved in TSU’s conference prestige from the cellar, to middle of the pack, to top three in the league. Yet, the major thing that prevents the embracement of his regime is a winless record versus the hated Rattlers of Florida A&M. Keep this in mind coach, FAMU fired a coach that was perfect against your Tigers now it’s time to get it right or it maybe your goodnight.
7. Alvin Wyatt, Sr. (Bethune-Cookman) has a style, flamboyance, and offense that are all out dated. There is no doubt that Shine could be a top notched coach, but he allows nonsense to get in the way. What so silly is that Wyatt knows how to prey on the weakness of just about any team. Ask FAMU about this year’s Florida Classic and A&T in 2006, they will attest to his offensive scheming ability. I honestly believe that the Cookman faithful love Shine because he’s able to put the Rattler in their place on occasion. Looking at the facts, Coach Wyatt in 77-45 over his eleven year career at Cookman, but he is 10-16 over the past two seasons. What’s a small private college to do? Maybe, he will be the next coach at FAMU. . Coach Wyatt was not ranked on any of the 2006-07 lists.
8. Deondri Clark (Fort Valley State) considering that he was 8-3 and third in the SIAC some would think that his job is safe. Well, you don’t work in the valley. The administration brought Clark and his sparkling résumé from Shaw to beat Tuskegee and Albany State. Thus far, he has been unable to do this. A record of 4-7 and 8-3 does show improvement, but it doesn’t give the rabid Wildcat fans what they want…... championships and humiliating ASU and TU. Coach Clark was not ranked on any of the 2006-07 lists.
9. Stan Conner (Benedict) only has one problem. He replaced the man who brought back Benedict football, laid the foundation for a multi-million dollar state of the art football stadium, and averaged 4.5 wins per year. Connor on the other hand begins with a 2-9 record. Stan has a lot of room to catch up in football crazy South Carolina. Coach Connor was not ranked on any of the 2006-07 lists.
10. Lamonte J. Massie (Livingstone) continues the revolving door of coaches and administrators that grace the halls of the once great institution. Although there has been vast improvements on campus, I feel that the Blue Bears suffer from the little brother complex due to cross town “rival” Catawba College. While one has championship success the other wallows in the mere of a loser. Massie has accumulated 0-10 record for his fist year in Smallsbury (Salisbury, NC). That’s right where they want to be until they get serious about winning. Just ask the Indian, AGGIES, Golden Bulls, and Ram fans that run the city. That should never happen on your home turf. Coach Massie was not ranked on any of the 2006-07 lists.
