As far as Spencer, Mel & Billy..... when I was younger I'd get frustrated with them but yr. by yr. I've grown to love them in the booth.... I think they do a wonderful job!!! And then on top of that they do what they do for free!!!! Hell they do an outstanding job!!!! What better love to show your university by donating your time towards something that was needed!!! Concur!! Until we can afford to hire an offensive co-ordinator, spending money on a Broadcast team is the last thing we need to do.

This is the problem with A&T athletics today. Our overall standards are just way too low. There's no way any sane person can listen to our radio broadcast team and say they are doing an "outstanding job".
Please tell me, what about their call of a game do you think is even marginally good? If is the way they always get the down and distance correct? Their description of the action on the field as it is happening? The way they always call out the right player name? What?

I'm not saying they are Al Michael and John Madden. I just don't think in the list of priorities this is anywhere near the top. I'd rather focus on getting the tennis program back or truly funding the baseball team.
Like Doomsday said back in September: Honestly they don't bother me that much. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that I've been listening to them for 16 plus years so I'm used to them. They're like the drunk uncle at the bbq. You know he's gonna set the race back every year but he's kinda entertaining so you let him do it.

Continuing to call these guys a broadcast team continues to be a misnomer. They have got to be the worst that I have ever heard and they have been the same for over 40 years. It's time for a change.

Truthseeker, put that 'joint' down. The best thing about the broadcast is it's fun to listen to it when you are high or you need comedic material for "Saturday Night Live"

Right now, they are doing more harm to their university than good. If they really loved A&T they would have already groomed some younger replacements to take over for them. If they were concerned about what was in the best interest of A&T they would want their alma mater to have the best radio broadcast in the nation. Instead, they just continue to hold the position hostage because they have nothing else to do with their time on Saturdays.
It's a shame it has come to this and you hate to see a messy divorce, but if they can't take a hint somebody needs to force them out.

For those that state its good that they are doing it for free - you don't think we could get some students to do the same for the valuable experience? What better way to show love to your students than to give them that opportunity to represent their alma mater as its broadcast team?

It'll be OK. We'll get a new team when we get a new press box.

Right now we need to focus on getting the new broadcast team into place.

I'm more focused on spring practice and an above .500 season for this fall. Like them or not, pro or con, they are an institution with the vast majority of the giving alumni (45 years old and above) so Spence and Mel aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

I bet if we had auditions for a new team and announced it as unpaid positions, we would still get a 1000 resumes/tapes. They don’t broadcast the game, you hardly ever know the down and distance, minutes go by before you know time left, sometimes I don’t who has the ball (# 20 runs rights, he’s back to pass). I don’t know how, but it’s time for a change!!
