I think a lot of moving around while playing effects the sounds.

Not greatly if you are taught and practice properly. That's what makes great bands great. The ability to do both. Anybody can stand still and play.

They reflect their leader.[/quote]
Then what needs to be done to change that...it seems like the input that is given to the band is going in one ear and out the other

blessedaggie84, Dr. Battle is brand new as chancellor. That's a good thing. I'm sure he will get an earful from students and make his own assessment. From listening to his interviews he seems to be quietly competitive. As he begins to attend games and see other bands, he will draw his own conclusions as to how the B&GMM stacks up and what fans think. (think Drumline plot)
If he's happy with being average, that's one thing. If he wants to be the best, he will encourage change. Just as in athletics, as we begin to recruit better STUDENT-athletes and graduation rates increase the focus will shift to winning.

I think a lot of moving around while playing effects the sounds. This is the sound I'm referring to! youtube.com/watch?v=3iNAJxw5NyUCompare this to the parade clip.

Is it really fair to compare a band that has just barely completed two weeks of band camp that is marching in a parade to a band that is well into the marching season that is sitting in the stands?

I used to be apart of the band..I was there for Doc's last year and a couple of years for Dr. Ruff..I have seen the decrease in members and over all product period..when he first came in his words were "I dont want to change anything I just want to make it better"..The band does sound better in a musical sense, but he sacrificed the fun and competition of being in the band. Me being a follower of A&T for sometime and a current student..I knew this move was a bad move from the start..All we can do is voice our opinions more a pray that a change is going to come.

LOL!!! Maxell I know you really dont believe that comment! I think it just your frustrations with what you perceive is the current state of the band.
If I am understanding you correctly you are saying Dr. Ruff should be able to have the band, after 10 days of practice in band camp, sounding better than or just as good as Dr. Hodge had the band after months into the band season.
If thats the case your expectations for Dr. Ruff are unattainable.

The power of this year's band will not change! I hope it can, but...
The B&G machine is lacking in the power department! Camp is when the band comes out on FIRE! The lack of trumpets and t-bones was felt heavy on Saturday! I don't think the band needs 50 more people, but about 10 or 15 more trumpets & T-bone players (EACH SECTION) that can play and you might have that SMALL BAND WITH THE BIG SOUND!
As for the song's ---I hope they are just holding the new stuff back until the first game..
Can the band bring back .. PLAYER HATER!!!! NOW THAT WAS HOT
I know ONE section that is ready.......COLD STEEL ;D

Will not happen because Dr. Ruff will only play the music that is written by A. Campbell the arranger. He had the arranger write everything over that other arrangers in the pass had written. Even if that arrangement was Hot. Sounds crazy....

Down to Four Drum Majors
One of them went back to the T-bone section. He did it for the betterment of the band! Now that's a stand up guy! I know that was not easy to do!
