This will definitely be the smallest (and probably least entertaining) A&T marching band in several decades. They marched back to Price Hall after Saturday night's scrimmage and for a second I thought I was watching Dudley High School. Actually, we need to go over to Dudley's campus and beg some of their top band members to help us out on Saturdays.
We are gonna get worked this year by Praire View, WSSU, Central, NSU, Howard, FAMU and of course B-CC.

LOL at this foolishness
First of all "smallest band in decades"....we marched a "block 96" in 1991 and won a national BOTB...I guess some folks have short term memories, remember "the small band with the big sound"? Size has never been the issue for this band, unless you are one of those non-musicians that assume "bigger is better" ;-)
Also I can guarantee not all the kids are back from their internships/summer jobs yet, most of those wrapped up this week - like my cousin (rising Jr at T) who had an internship at John Deere in Iowa and his last day was Friday. Some folks do have to work to pay for school you know ;-)
That "least entertaining" part is subjective of course but what grounds are you calling them least entertaining. Did you watch their show? Hear some songs? Was the Bb concert scale out of tune?
On top of all that, their first full day of camp was Friday, this is early Sunday morning. It's only been 2 days. They are practically still teaching the freshmen how to march.
Come on thrilla I taught you better than that :-D

Least entertaining? Do you remember when the weekly feature song was "Waiting for Tonight" by J-Lo? What about "Toxic" by Brittney Spears? Unless they're featuring a song by Paris Hilton this year I don't knkow if they can take that crown.

Its my understanding that morale around the band department is as low as its been in decades. Dr. Ruff has a full-fledged mutiny on his hands. There are a lot of sensitive issues involved that I won't go in to detail with right now, but there definitely seems to be a different "culture" taking over the band that a lot of past and current members are not comfortable with.

We'll' put the usual 140-150 playing pieces on the field which about the right size to get things done properly. No doubt BC is a monster but musicality and versatilty in style is the first thing I look for in a marching band. But everyone has their personal preference.
About the rest of it- the rumors and such , I take those things with a grain of salt and always consider the source first and the motivation behind it, much like this year's football team.
Until you see them for yourself its always someone else's perception.

Nah, look for the band to top off at about 120 members this year.
I wish the other issues weren't true, but if multiple insiders keep telling me the same thing and band members are steady leaving the program in droves, then you have to start taking notice.

("Least entertaining? Do you remember when the weekly feature song was "Waiting for Tonight" by J-Lo? What about "Toxic" by Brittney Spears? ")
Those used to hurt my stomach.

But I went out there on Wednesday and they have signs posted around campus begging people to be in band. People are making phone calls frantic to get more people for certain sections. Small band with the big sound *two thumbs way up* Small band with the ok sound *two thumbs way down* It's a new day! *cough*a darker day But they may surprise me...hopefully. They haven't these past 2 years.
