I don't see the correlation.
If the same linebacker is given the opportunity to play for Guilford College for free or play for A&T for a scholly, he's playing at A&T nine times out of ten.
Likewise, if Central's offering the piccolo player a scholarship and A&T is not, which school's gonna have a piccolo player?
The basic complaint is that the numbers aren't there. I'm saying if we offered scholarships that complaint wouldn't exist. Yes we would still complain about the quality of the band but the complaints about the quality of the band lately have been stemming from the quantity of the band.
Therefore, none of these threads would be open. They would start once the season started because people would, as usual, complain about the lack of fire, lack of air humping, song-selection, whatever.
You get what you pay for and to think you're going to get a good number of talented musicians to literally play for a song and dance when they're getting full rides isn't good thinking in 2007. People are fighting to get on some bands. I'm willing to bet these bands offer scholarships. Black kids are playing music you know they hate for major colleges (and minor ones) all over the country. I bet 80% or more ain't doing it for free.

My complaint has nothing at all to do with the numbers.

If SC State is offering a full ride to a trumpet & A&T is offering a full ride to the same trumpet. Right now, he's going to SCSU. In '02 and previous, A&T wasn't offering this young person anything and they are STILL coming to T! Scholarship money is a scapegoat for the lack of quality. If people like what the band is doing, they will do whatever is necessary to get in it. If they don't, thats when you have to entice them with money. Numbers don't mean anything if you have the right person at the head. The idea of what the band is should match what its supporters and its members desire it to be.
All he had to do is shine the diamond that was already created. 2003 was the biggest band ever...NOBODY said anything about any scholarship $.

Now I will state that I know nothing about bands.
But I do know that in '02 I could've bought my house for half what I paid for it and gas prices were less than half what they are now. Money is a much bigger issue in my life. I would think that it's a bigger issue for a kid looking to go to college as well.
"RayRay, you can go to A&T and I'll help you get a loan, or you can go to SC State and I'll give you my old car and some gas money."
That's just my opinion. It's probably wrong but it does make sense (cents) to me.
Now then, since it appears that Ruff wasn't a good idea what do we do about it? Because via this website we have a lot of power. I am not for replacing somebody unless you have a proven replacement. You got one? Or do we just need to impress upon Dr. Ruff that we need a change?
