Do ya think it's possible for the womens team to garner a top 25 ranking in the next two years? I think if we can keep this team together and keep Coach Bibbs it might be possible in 2008-2009.

Now that's a tough question.......... We would have to have a tough schedual, We also would have to beat 3 to 5 teams that are in the top 25, win the MEAC and make the sweet 16...... That's a mouth full!!!!!!! Can anyone else think of what we would have to do.......

Iona (men's) was ranked in the top 25 when Jimmy Valvano was coach. They beat some majors in the early part of the season. As they got into their conference schedule they slowly dropped out of the top 25 without losing a game!
In order for the women's team to be ranked in the top 25 we would have to be able to schedule and beat a number of ranked teams early in the season and have a postseason run. Then we would have to be able to schedule and beat a number of ranked teams the following year. That would lead us to a ranking. Even then as we got into meac play we'd drop out of the rankings win or lose. Not to mention if we go around beating people at their place it would be very difficult to impossible to schedule majors again.

Naw it wouldn't take all that. Using the same model as Winthrop we could do it. Go undefeated in MEAC play, beat a major (or play a top one real close) and beat a couple of decent mid-majors. Coppin actually receivced a couple of votes for the top 25. It can be done.

Yeah, a top 25 ranking is achievable. We need to play in one of the major's pre-conference tournaments and win a game and scare the heck out of the eventual champion. Maybe we could win it. Host a tournament with quality teams and win it. Win our conference and have a winning record outside of the conference.

Coppin St. finished at #75 in the final college rpi rankings and came kinda close to a national top 25 ranking. They lost to WV by 1pt, Xavier by 4, and Miami by 5. If they had won two of those games I think they would have done it.

Decks, you puttin way too much faith in white folks. I think the women would have to do what others have suggested, and more, just to get votes for the top 25.
A continued schedule upgrade and wins against those upgraded teams could get us some votes.

...and by the time we start winning we won't be able to schedule a game.
Our men's team has received votes for the top 25. Didn't mean much.
I have a question. Has the men's team ever been ranked? If none of the 80s teams made it in the top 25 then I wouldn't expect for it to happen.

If none of the 80s teams made it in the top 25 then I wouldn't expect for it to happen. Back then there were only the Top 20 poll rankings, writers and coaches polls during that era. Doom, you are right (you like that don't cha), it was hard for Coach Corbett to schedule a game against a team who would have a power ranking between 20 and 75. NC State would scheduled A&T at their home when they felt comfortable they had the upper hand. UNC at that time didn't play any nonconference instate schools. I don't know about Duke and Wake Forest flat out said "No" and possibly "Hell No!" along with a host of colleges from power conference who were normally in the middle of their particular conference standing. In a one particular two-year period, 86-88, Wake Forest played every Division 1 school in the state of NC but A&T.

Corbett's teams never played enough majors during the regular season and when he did play one it was usually a blowout. This ladies team will be different. In 2009 they'll be loaded with talent and experience. Bland, Taylor-James, Smalley, Cook, Williams,Coulter , and Lowery will be the bomb! And let's not forget about incoming star Jalessa Sams. This team will be so deep it will be ridiculous. I believe they'll do it!

the ladies took a pounding against schools from the power conferences this season.... it will be interesting to see how much of a gap they will close next season.... increase operating budget... solid recruiting... the skies the limit!!!!
