After reading the audit report, it looks like Renick let the wheels run off while he was Chancellor. I'm not sure who dropped the ball at A&T, the Trustee Board, Chancellor, Deans, or some Staff but it's for sure alot of people screwed up and it's going to take a long time to recover. I'm a second generation Aggie and it hurts me to my" Heart " to read all of the info in the News And Record about A&T. I'm pissed and I think somebody needs to go to JAIL.

I can tell you that many hbcus are seeing a run of bad press lately. So don't be discouraged and feel like we're somehow substandard, just know that we have a little work to do on our own yard and it is important to inform the yardkeepers of our expectations and hold them accountable.

I don't know how many of you remember, but when Dr Lewis Dowdy retired as A&T's president the state was about ready to close A&T down. Our books and finanical records were so bad that it could not even be audited. The state had to send in people just to get the records straight to attempt to do an audit. We hired Dr Fort and he finally got us back on track. Even though A&T was in such a bad shape when Dr Dowdy left, A&T still named a building in his name. Dr Dowdy was a good man but he let things get out of hand on his watch. I bet if you talk to the old schooler's on the board they would find a way to defend naming the building in Dr. Dowdy's name. Oh, and by the way, I was told that Dr. Vickers (I think that's her name) chairman of the department of education was forced to resign a few days after the board recinded Renick's name fron the new education building. Some say that it was because she disagreed with the board's decision. I would not put a lot of stock into what the auditors found because there were only 2 people that were guilty of taking money and they were found out about and fired months ago. I don't know what the big deal is with bringing this situation back up in the press again. Old News!!!!

I read into the it same things Bigboy. Basically 2 or 3 individuals decided to pad their pockets which falls way short of a lack of total institutional control or widespread corruption as it was protrayed by the media, Hackley, or Speight but the actions of a very finite number of dishonest people.

We don't have the confidence that we should have that this Board of Trustees led by Dr. Velma Speight-Buford picked the right person, Dr. Battle, to put A&T on the right course and lead this university into a brighter future.
Can anyone have any confidence that this BOT can make momentous decisions that are right?

To me all these issues are FINANCIAL Policy. Aren’t there policies already in place to catch and correct these problems? Though this was under Renick’s watch, is it our expectation that the Chancellor of the University is to review every source document for the every financial transaction? When I worked at GWU, there was a professor that started a company and began paying his company through his grant with U.S. Department of Transportation, to the tune of almost $2 million via University’s purchase orders for non existent work. Not once during the media disclosure was there reference to the President’s leadership. The blame was placed squarely on the individual that planned and implemented the fraudulent use of University and Federal funds. I don’t see how the current administration can utter Renick’s name, except for personal deflection. In this case Renick is not the blame, the criminals are. It's all about leadership. Dr. speight leadership is in question here. I think she's allowed some personal views to cloud her thinking.

I think Renick might deserve to take a little more heat than some have been giving him.
"The mother of Harrigan's executive assistant received a vendor contract after the vice chancellor "assisted the Bid Committee with evaluating the vendors." The committee originally ranked the woman third for the job, but after the vice chancellor's input, the assistant's mother was bumped to the top spot and selected.
The mother was later prepaid $18,000 for work that she hadn't performed, a claim supported by falsified documents, the report says."
That's second in command and does reflect poorly on the Chancellor. IMO
