Question: What software do you use to make a podcast?

Actually you could just use a basic a$$ recorder but we recorded this one at the radio station and used Adobe Audition (formerly Cool Edit Pro). I like to use Acoustica Mixcraft too (Mixcraft is idiot proof to me while Audition can be confusing)

What you think about the intro music, I thought it sounded "newsy"

I would choose some different intro music. Maybe a hip hop beat. You guys are still in college; there's no need for the show to have a Tavis Smiley feel to it.

Nice podcast.. I like the intro music and the transition to the hi-tek beat that serves as a bed to the newscast. Very tasteful.
Question... It was said that the register comes out every wednesday. When I was there it may not have even come out that frequently. At Howard, they have a new edition of the Hilltop sitting in the law school (accross town from main campus) DAILY. Is there any interest in increasing the volume and frequency of the paper? Also, how much creative control do you guys have as students? Howard amazes me because it would be nothing to open a paper with a headline that reads something along the lines of "Campus Administration to blame for Faulty Elevators" or something like that. When I was at T, I could never imagine the Register speaking out against administration, coaches, etc... as a student voice, even sport-wise... has that changed at all?

Let's see if I can answer these in order... - Thanks, I thought that Hi-Tek was cool for the newsbed music too - The A&T Register circulates 3,500 copies every Wednesday on campus at 12+ locations. The Hilltop went daily not too long ago and their quality has definitely suffered - We have talked about coming out Bi-Weekly (like Monday and Thursday) but when you're working with a staff of editor, one sports editor that can layout, write and distribute ideas and layout the news and Arts & Life pages, another one that just writes and that's your staff (other than copy editor and the wires girl) so that's like 5 people putting out a paper every week while the Hilltop has OVER 50 editors & contributors. We have 3 contributors outside the staff PERIOD. So, could it be done. Yes. But, I would have to do most of the design and assinging stories and I'm already dying doing everything I do (finna be back on probation BDF! I'm a statistic). - We have complete creative control at the paper, we didn't even have an advister first semester so we COULD say whatever we want about the university. But, we aren't independent anymore which means we get our money from them and it's like we fought just to get this money nobody is trying to f*** it up ya know. So we are very delicate with bashing A&T in print. We have called out the things they do that are unconstitutional though (I have a list of stories "attacking" the university I gotta send you though) - We SMASH the coaching staff CONSISTENTLY at least I do... - Change is gonna come, I've gotten to the point where I don't even look or talk to people from other HBCU papers unless it's an event that's just unique to HBCU's. As far as writing and design, we are equally mediocre! I've been in contact with people from Penn, Columbia, Ball State, Carolina, schools with well known Journalism programs who I could learn a lot from and all of which have no hesitation in going after the powers that be, wait until Fall 2007...TRUST ME! We'll be a lot different (if I win this unconstitutional election next Wednesday)

I wish more people in the A&T athletic department had that same desire.

Mike, With 10,000 students, why do you think your staff is so small? I thought JMC was an up and coming dept.

I appreciate the synopsis, and I understand your hesitance to bash A&T. I think some of that comes from the fact that Howard students are generally more cynical towards their University than aggies, not to mention the subpar facilities over on Howard's main campus as compared to A&T's. (Imagine if A&T had a middle school stadium and decided to throw some astroturf on that B--- Rich Boy style)
I don't know much about the register now, but when I was in school it was very tame, almost as though the faculty/administration wrote it themselves. (Of course, I was too busy partying and complaining to get off my a$$ and do something) IMO, there would've been nothing wrong with addressing student concerns such as going to sebastian with a cold and getting treated for a brain tumor, etc... All in all, looks like the paper's in good hands though.
