Coppin State President Stanley Battle will be introduced as the new Chancellor of North Carolina A&T State University this afternoon in a scheduled press conference on the Greensboro campus.
Battle took over Coppin State in 2003 leading them from college to university status. Previously he had served as vice chancellor of student and multicultural affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
The 55-year old Battle has extensive experience in developing academic improvement among low performing students in secondary education. He is a 1973 graduate of Springfield College, 2 master degrees, one in social work from the University of Connecticut and another in public health from the University of Pittsburgh. He earned his doctorate from Pittsburgh in 1980.

The sooner Hackley leaves, the better.

I'm probably the only Hackney fan on this board. I appreciate all the work he did to get us through the transition period and find a solid new chancellor.
BTW: We should have never let that convicted sex offender back on the team in the first place. Hackney was right to put his foot down.

You probably are the only Hackney fan on this board. And, just what did this knucklehead do to get us "through the transition peroid...?"

What didn't he do? Everybody here is mad that he didn't let a convicted sex offender play on the football team this season, but besides that what did he do that hurt this university? His main job was to keep the university running smoothly and to help us find a new chancellor. In my opinion, he suceeded greatly with both of those tasks.
Hackney obviously has the school's best interest at heart or he would have not sent Stanley Battle's name to Erskine Bowles. He also did not want our athletic program to be the target of a season full of bad press and potential picket lines from women's groups because we had a convcited sex offender on the team. As much as I like winning, you have to draw a line somewhere in the name of principle.
Hackney's hand was forced on the whole Harrison situation because our athletic department just didn't do the proper research on the kid's legal standing. The News & Record's investigation was more thorough and they were able to embarass us.
Hackney lost confidence in the athletic department's judgement after that and decided that all decision would have to come through him for now on. If we hadn't dropped the ball on the Harrison issue, Hackney never would have stuck his noise in the athletic department's business.
