I'm thinking of replacing my lawn with some of that roll-up Bermuda stuff. Any of you guys know anything about it?

Bermuda is a beautiful and tough grass, however make sure you invest in a sprinkler system and have a good weed treatment program.

I hate bermuda grass! I consider it a weed.

Well, nix the Bermuda. What's a good way to get that luscious, thick green stuff?

Fertilizer, water (maybe reseeding), and time, my good friend. At this point in the year, not having a clue what you are working with, call a service. They should be able to whip it in shape before the summer heat. But unless you have time and energy to devote to this venture "luscious" may be a dream this year. Once you get it going though it's fairly easy to maintain, but it's still a routine. Go to the Scotts website that’s my mentor. I had a service (Chemlawn) but they where useless, so I mean a real service.
Perdóneme señor ¿Cómo está usted ¿Cuál es el gasto en el cuidado de césped?

Dont bother right now(summer time is coming). Anything you plant now will die from the summer heat because it would not have had time to grow enough roots. it would take way to much effort to keep it alive.
Like Aggie77 said, aerate and then seed in September. After that just follow Scotts chart. You might consider using another brand, but Scotts never fails and you save money in the long run.

Well, I've got Scott's doing the lawn servicing. They basically told me I have the worst yard they've ever serviced. Five different types of weeds and plenty of dirt patches. I guess usually people just say the hell with it and pave their yard if it gets like this one.
We'll see how it shapes up over the next year or so.

If push come to shove you can always just kill off all the grass and weeds and turn your yard into a natural area with shrubs, plants, flowers and mulch. You will still have to have weed control. Just a thought!!

I'm trying to talk the missus into doing bricking the whole backyard and kudzuing a portion of the front. No dice so far...

Even if you brick it, grass will grow between the joints. Just take it with a grain of salt and give it time. But I definitely wouldn't do the Bermuda grass!
