Looks like Knotts streak of 7 straight title is about to come to an end.

Yeah, your high school is about to get punished this weekend. That's what Knotts gets for beating up that parent at the JV game. LOL

Naw, he's just had 5 more players declared ineligible. That's a total of 7 over the last two week, plus his 2,000 yard tailback sprained his ankle last week.

Please. This New Bern squad isn't even the best 4A school in the east. Wilmington Hoggard beat them pretty good during the season. Hoggard is playing for the small 4A championship.
As for Indy, I read the 5 guys declared ineligible were bought up from the JV. The beat will go on for Independence. Maybe the NCHSAA will do something about it when they get their 20th straight title.
Indy rolls again unless Knotts starts feeling guilty and lets New Bern wins.

Correction. It was three declared ineligible instead of five. If Chisholm plays then I think Indy can win again.
The NCHSAA doesn't have to do anything. The local school board is cracking down on student movement for athletics. What a lot of folks don't realize is that Knotts loses way more players to other schools than he receives in.

Interesting!!!
We lost to Hoggard due to us turning the ball over about 4 times. Don't let the score fool you. Hoggard is good though! They have a couple of lineman heading to D1 schools. Besides, the NB-Hoggard match up occured in the first week of the season. We're a much better team NOW.
Independence will have their hands full with the BEARS.

I grew up in Jones County near New Bern so I’m pulling for the Bears. I still think the 2002 undefeated NB team (that lost the championship to Independence 41-20) was a lot stronger than this year’s team and could probably beat Indy this year. They went toe-to-toe with Indy (Chris Leak) at the height of their power. Good luck to the Bears but I still think Indy has amassed too much talent for anyone in NC except for West Charlotte. The best game of the weekend looks to be Shelby vs Reidsville. Two traditional powers. Dudley will probably lose against a Charlotte (Catholic) private school that somehow got into the NCHSAA. It's my understanding that kids from all over can play for them but have to sit out a year first. Go figure. I’ll be at the South Columbus – Lincolnton game with a co-worker who is from the Columbus cty area.

South Columbus is in the championship? Wow. My pop's home is near West Columbus. Whiteville used to run that area.

South Columbus is undefeated and has been cracking heads this year. They have a defense for ya! If they win, Tabor City will go nuts.

DAM...(new rules) I mean DAAAAANNNGGGG!!!!!
Any knowledge of recruits coming from out that way? We could either use some players and/or coaches off that defense. Over half their games were shutouts!

Wifey went to Independence and they have become my adopted team. This will probably be a very close game because Indy isn't as good this year. In fact, at the beginning of the season I predicted they wouldn't make it this far.

The Head Athletic Trainer (Nika Johnson) for New Bern is a recent A&T grad. She worked with several teams here.

Bears' championship win avenges previous losses Adam Thompson Sun Journal December 9, 2007 - 12:21AM WINSTON-SALEM — New Bern has itself a state champion.
The Bears ended Charlotte Independence’s seven-consecutive state-title run by knocking off the Patriots 28-17 Saturday night in the 4-AA state championship game at BB&T Field in Winston-Salem.
New Bern avenged three previous losses to Independence in the state title games in 2002, 2003 and 2005.
“It has been a fun season, and we capped it off with a state championship against a quality team like Independence,” said New Bern Head Coach Bobby Curlings. “It was one of the goals that my seniors had all year, and for it to come true we had to have a lot of guys step up. Hats off to the seniors — we couldn’t have done it without them and their leadership.”
With 26 seniors, the Bears came away with their first-ever state title.
“This is just a perfect way to go out,” said senior Anthony Holloway. “This was my last football game here ever. It is perfect to go out with a state championship win.”
“It feels great,” said senior Rod Sawyer. “I have been asking for this since the first day I walked into school. I just can’t sit here and describe it.”
Former New Bern coach Chip Williams was on the sidelines to witness the Bears’ win. “He is a big part of the program,” Curlings said. “He put all the pieces in place, and we are fortunate to keep building on it.”
Senior quarterback Brett Williams, who was named the game’s Most Valuable Player, ran for 109 yards and threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns.
Kevin Reddick, named the game’s top offensive player, racked up 46 yards rushing and two touchdowns. He also had a stellar defensive game.
Junior Mike Price added a touchdown catch and 104 yards receiving for the Bears, and senior Danzelle Boomer — named the game’s top defensive player — added two interceptions.
When New Bern needed a play, a senior stepped up. With 26 seniors on the roster, it was Boomer who made the biggest play of the game.
He grabbed an interception off a deflection by Reddick and dashed 24 yards for a touchdown with 10:10 remaining in the game. After the extra point, the touchdown gave the Bears a 28-17 lead.
The Patriots had a chance to answer, but New Bern’s defense rose to the occasion. The Bears halted three Independence runs, setting up a fourth and goal from the New Bern six. Patriots quarterback Anthony Carrothers tossed a lob to one of his receivers, but it was broken up by New Bern senior cornerback Anthony Holloway.
Boomer sealed the game with his second interception with 12 seconds remaining.
The Bears took their first lead of the state championships when Williams fired a 37-yard touchdown strike to Mike Price with 6:32 remaining in the third quarter. Vince McDuffie ran in the two-point conversion, giving New Bern a 21-14 lead.
Independence’s kicker Robbie Ward then booted a 31-yard field goal with 15 seconds left in the third quarter.
The Patriots scored on their first possession of the game. They drove 51 yards on 11 plays, capped off by Carrothers’ 13-yard touchdown pass to Javon Rembert.
The Bears were driving on their first possession, but a Williams pass deflected off of running back Vince McDuffie and into the hands of Independence’s Jarvis Pierce. The Bears forced the Patriots to punt.
Independence then forced New Bern to punt and returned the ball to the Bears’ 11-yard line. Following a New Bern offsides penalty, Carrothers found Fernando White in the end zone for a six-yard touchdown with 3:36 left in the first quarter.
The Patriots posted a 14-0 advantage.
New Bern responded with :12 seconds remaining in the quarter. Williams completed a seven-play, 80-yard drive when he connected with Kevin Reddick for a seven-yard touchdown pass. Two plays earlier, Williams hit Mike Price for a 47-yard pass, placing the ball at the seven.
On their next possession, Reddick cut the Bears’ deficit to 14-13 when Reddick plunged into the end zone from two-yards outs. Kicker Miguel Cruz’ extra point was blocked. Williams completed a 46-yard pass to Demarcus Howell, setting up the Reddick score and finishing off an 82-yard drive.
Independence held onto a 14-13 halftime advantage.
“I don’t think anybody started to lose confidence when we were down,” Williams said. “It was definitely not the right way to start off a state championship game. We did a great job of keeping composure and stayed together as a team.”
New Bern dominated the second half. The defense held Independence’s star running back Rod Chisholm to just six yards rushing for the game. Carrothers ran for 71 yards for Independence while throwing for 181 yards and two touchdowns.
“The defense has been playing real well in the playoffs,” Curlings said. “It seems like every game it is somebody else stepping up to make a big play. I can’t say enough about the defensive line for putting pressure on the quarterback.”

The game was awesome. I understand it was air on television across the state. I wish A&T had a shot at Kevin Reddick. Hopefully, we'll get a couple of those defensive lineman on from both teams. Maybe the safety from NB too.
It was a great game in terms of suspence. To many dropped passes for Independence. NB dominated the 2nd half! Stopped Independence from the one yard line.
I really felt sorry for the Independence kids afterwards. None of them wants to be apart of the team for which the streak ended.
