Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) was not even supposed to be invited to the NCAA tournament because they did not win their NEC Championship Tournament. Merrimack University won the NEC Championship Tournament, but was ineligible to participate in the NCAA tournament because they are in the final year of a four-year transition from Division II to Division I. I was unaware of this type of NCAA ban. Why have such a ban when many would consider it a big disadvantage for a school moving up in division to win a regular season or tournament championship? Strange.
Again, another example of a DII school and coach competing successfully with DI schools if given the opportunity.
