Well, here we are. How did we do? "Your Record is your Record" Coach Parcells ( i think).
Here we were.
Interiem Coach. With suddenly losing his true/tall Bigs. Hitting the Road, getting in a practive here and there. Beat UNC-G lost to Norfolk in the meantime.
Looked around, it's New, new League play. Coach/Staff Chasing sleep trying to watch film on the Teams Tendencies. Beat Hofstra, lost to Monmouth (who just joined too, with Hampton). Had some moments good and bad, in Corbett and on the Road (William & Mary), and made the Trek to now.
Overall 13-18 .419 Conf. 8-10 .444
First Thanks to Coach/Staff and the Team. And the Seniors.
How did we do? Corbett/Student, Alums, the local Professionals, and as a Brand?
Me...
Corbett/Students. The gym was weak, with no buts in the seats, not just having a season tkt. Compared to the days of when we were Really on the List of the Toughest Places to play. One cant expect The Students (except the Ballers) to know The Stars in the League - We had a few too- to come to The Game. Do we need schedule Gonzaga- although Charleston is ranked 4th, behind 1st St Mary's, 2nd Gonzaga, and 3rd Oral Roberts/Mid-Major College insider Poll - or a League Team that caught fire with a Ja Morant type Player, to get Corbett packed? Oh, This League has some Ballers, Men, Women, White and Other. All with a handle and an i'll embarrass you vibe.
Are The Local Professionals making an A&T Basketball Game a part of their Night/Saturday out? Do we need to take over All of Gameday and throw a After-Party for the Alums and another for The Students, with the Star giving a Tease during Halftime?
I still cant rattle off The Teams in the CAA. Idk if The Students have that peer -from a NCCU for instance- to talk smack to, during the game build-up.
Alums. We are trying to figure things out. It stays a hard sell of us talking about out Vision/Direction to our Peers. We know that we need our wallets but does the Local see that point?
The Brand Its good. But We Really need to do something that I cant put my finger on. Ground breaking, win games to bragg about to others, idk.
What say you?

How do we know our Brand is good for WBB and/or MBB? I know in a few away games there were high attendance in opponent's gyms. Is that what you are using to measure Brand. How are we determining Brand at home games?
Can we get a breakdown on student vs total attendance for each home game and compare that to A&T's expectations? With this info you may design better marketing ads or events.
I apologize for not having any solutions just more questions.

Also our NIL Game needs work it seems. NIL should have NO parts at all with in our Athletic Departments administration. Don't get it twisted. The athletes should have excess to NIL offers but those offers should not be directed in anyway to the athletic department and institutional structure . NIL should remain a outside agreement between the player and The Business making the offer. When Athletic Departments and Institutions start linking themselves in the recruitment of student athletes there could be the possibility of legal action down the road . In my opinion if I we're going to recruit a player and the NIL conversation would surface in there living-room . My reply would be simply this . ANY NIL contracts that are negotiated . Will not be organized or negotiated or party to in contact by the University period.

The better the recruit the more involved the coaches and universities are in the process. I have 1st hand knowledge of how position coaches and HC from universities like, Florida, Notre Dame, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Oregon were heavily involved in NIL deals with several recruits. At FCS schools the involvement is less but not absent. Check out the below link on the significant of NIL on schools and who is dealing with this issue. This team has been all over from up to down. Would not be shocked if they loss first round of tournament would not be shocked if they made it to championship game.
The talent is there……some will disagree but the talent is there

A team full of Carmelo Anthonys. Not Full just one or two players . I think the rest of the team gets it. It's just those few that don't.

For some reason, the entertainment value at games this season wasn't as high as in recent years. Maybe it was the DJ/game operations crew, maybe it was the student section - but something just seemed to be missing.
Plus, I think I personally suffered from some fan fatigue with the multiple women and men's game schedule each week and couldn't find time to attend a lot of games these last two months.
As far as the action on the court - I think the Lady Aggies did much better than I anticipated and Coach Rob seemed to adjust his in-game demeanor for the better.
The men performed about how I expected them to with no true front court players, but I think Coach Shumpert really got exposed for not being cut out to be a D1 head coach. I dont see him ever getting another shot like this again.

But boosters can pay prospective students through NIL deals. The Guidance clarifies that it is permissible for schools to require student athletes to report NIL deals to their institution. It also indicates that schools are allowed to provide students access to boosters that provide NIL services. But the institutions themselves cannot be involved outside of providing the list. All legal and contractual workings must be provided by an outside of attorney or agent with no involvement in the institution itself..i.e an experienced attorney can negotiate an NIL contract for the athlete in a way that not only secures the most money, but also limits any constraints that could interfere with the athlete's craft. They also can determine the proper length of the contract and ensure that it conforms to state laws and NCAA guidelines. frontofficesports.com/nil-rule-contradictions/

To me Coach did a good job- for a first year Team. As opposed to Hampton and Monmouth.
I think that we have 3 or 4 guys leaving. Bettis, Elliot and Dukes to a lesser degree, are young in their academic careers ( I think ). Whoever is the Coach, that will bring in a few players who want to ball mid-major, in the front court then that’s worth a possible two more wins, wouldn’t we say? With Johnson and Powell - with a summer to work- supporting them.
Kam just needs to tweak his floater to have it become deadly, and really run the Team with improved shot selection.

Bettis, Dukes and Elliott leaving ? I doubt that either of them is going anywhere. Don't start rumors unless you can substantiate them with facts . Shot Selection is not Kams problem. Leadership and being able to effectively facilitate and direct the ball and position his teammates to be better players. Anybody can score if you take enough shots but not all Shooters can lead we need a leader like the Kam before him . He also needs to work harder on his Defensive skills . Bettis and Dukes attack the ball handlers on defense and understand how to control the passing Lanes even in the paint Kim doesn't do those things YET . When he adds those little things to his repertoire with his scoring ability the sky's the limit .

They find the boosters and business that want to donate to the school and form "Collectives". They send athletes to them and dictate how much money to distribute to them based on value to the team. These Collectives are just a shield for the school/coach to avoid getting into trouble with the NCAA. They get their directives from the coach. These businesses don't know how to determine which high school recruits or college transfers are more valuable to the school to set a pay scale. Why do you think they added in that line that the athletes are require to report NIL deals to their institution? Because they will control where and who gets the money. Once a verbal agreement is made between the family and coach, all the written agreements are handled by the attorneys and others. Just like the under the table deals in the old days.

i agree with frisco, we have good talent on our team that can hold their own against any team in this league. knowing what i now know about our talent, i'm "disappointed" with the outcome of our regular season. i hate to be so critical of our coaching because i actually like coach shumpert, but i'm a "straight shooter" and i call it the way that i see it.
there were at least "2" game deciding instances this season that are permanent "thorns in my side" and "to me", both were "inexcusable". first and foremost, the "54 second meltdown" was inexcusable and most recently, the last second beyond nba 3 point range jumper despite being just 1 point down was also "inexcusable". we barely "squeaked out" the win (should've never been that close) despite the "54 second meltdown" and we basically gave the game away to delaware by shooting that beyond nba 3 point range jumper. i hold the coach accountable for that.
however, there were some "bright spots" during the season. and "to me", among the brightest spots was the evolution of duncan powell's game. he started the season very slowly in terms of "impact", but came on "very strong" towards the end of the season. powell is a "complete" player! meaning, he equally plays as well on the defensive end of the court as he does on the offensive end of the court. and his "basketball iq" is off the charts. i'm finally beginning to see why he was rated a "4star" recruit coming outta high school. had my doubts earlier in the season, but not anymore.
another bright spot (despite their poor shot selections) were watson and woods. they both can be "unstoppable" offensively at times, but their shot selections are "horrible" and they don't put as much effort into "defense" as they do on offense. however, that doesn't disprove how "physically" talented they both are. but its their "mental" basketball talent that comes into question. i don't know how "coachable" they are, but if they would allow a coach to impose "structure" in their games, they'd both be far more productive than they currently are.
the "unsung hero" of the team is demetric horton. the only reason he doesn't score a lot more than he does is because he's willing to take a backseat to watson and woods. but trust me, this dude can flatout score.
so i honestly like our "talent". i feel that we should've finished 4th or 5th in the conference with an above .500 conference record, two spots above our current 7th place standing with the "potential" to have finished 2nd or 3rd...
