Most Recent Plays00:00 ANT MISSED JUMPER BY #4 WATSON,M ( FG 8-20 ) ; DEL DEF REBOUND 00:01 DEL TIMEOUT - 30SEC 00:01 DEL FT GOOD BY #0 NELSON JR.,J 00:01 ANT TIMEOUT - FULL SMH! Seems like there is not much a coach can do with 1 second left in the game and you are inbounding the ball underneath Delaware basket. If I am reading the play-by-play correctly. Since you didn't see the game, maybe this will help you understand. 1. Jameer Nelson Jr. Made A Driving Layup with 17 seconds. 2. M. Watson pounds the rock in front of our bench for the next 13 seconds or so, then jacks up a fade-away three. (The whole time I'm yelling TIMEOUT) So, you are right it's not much you can do with 1 second, but how about 17. But as VA's Finest stated we almost pulled off the "Christian Laettner turnaround jumper" for the win. My post above is only to show we had at least one more timeout.

Since my season ended at S. Meck Tuesday night I was able go to tonight’s game….Bro….77 assessment is correct we down 1 Watson cross 1/2 court with 13 seconds and poundsthe rock right in front of Shumper for 11 seconds then takes a step back 3 beyond NBA range ….. Shumpert needed to take a time out once he crossed 1/2 court

We called the TO to setup the "I still hate Christian Laettner turnaround". We should have called it with 16 seconds left We called a timeout but Delaware called the last timeout after the made FT according to the play-by-play. He called the time out but not at the right time considering we had two . The play was set up perfectly with one second on the clock. Powell put the ball on the money the shoot was just short . If Watson would have miraculously made that shoot he would have been a hero by missing it he's a Goat 🐐 . The same people that were praising the young man and telling everyone about his IQ and skills are the ones dropping Salt 🧂on him now . Hate to say this but I told you so at the beginning of the season that Both Watson and Woods were not the answer but at least Woods is adjusting his game to a degree and we are moving more . In saying that Watson and Woods should never be on the floor at the same time . Because Watson is a continuity liability . As soon as he entered the game all player movement stopped on the offensive end and it was isolation ball even had Powell following his lead and they just forgot about Horton all together 😆 . I watched Hortons body language change as soon a Watson entered the game because he knew that he would not see the ball again 😆 . But I must say this also . IF (it's a big if) they can keep there heads together and play as a coherent unit the entire game. They could possibly make the semis but that's a big IF .

Saab,
Shumpert knows exactly who and what Watson does so he should have taken a time out

Saab, Shumpert knows exactly who and what Watson does so he should have taken a time out That is the point exactly " Shumpert knows exactly what Watson does " . With a player like Watson he has a Hero's complex and would have been Watson timeout or instructions or not. That is a chance to take with a player like Watson . Personally in my opinion Watson shouldn't have been on the floor in a close game like that because Shumpert knows exactly how and what he is and capable of not doing what he is instructed to do .

Watson would have been ok driving to the basket. That’s why you call a time out and initially put the ball in someone else hands. Watson should be on the floor but not in a position to pound the rock for 11 seconds.
I am fine with Watson taking game winning shot but not without anyone else touching the ball

Sometimes the best players on your team, can be the worst player when he disrupts continuity and flow . Look the young man is and outstanding talent but talent without the ability to lead is wasted Talent especially in close games .

"Hampton is a must-win for us," said A&T interim head coach Phillip Shumpert. "February has been a tough month for us. Whenever you think you're getting over the hump, you get an injury to another big. We haven't had Jeremy Robinson (6-foot-6) in the month of February. Duncan Powell (6-8) is playing well, but Jeremy was a glue guy in terms of providing us more toughness around the basket. Hopefully, we can get him back soon."
What am I missing?
"It came down to the wire. Watson came down and had a nice dunk the play before, and I thought rather than try to set up something, we had the same mismatch on him," said Shumpert. "I thought he would go back to the basket and try to score and get fouled. That was the game plan."

Translation: "I personally have no idea how to design a real offensive set so I decided to just have my best player figure something out at the end."

Hampton beat Monmouth 86-81...Are we even gona be able to beat Hampton this time around? Come on now . This Team is capable to beat any team in the CAA excluding the top 5. The problem is with this team is Which Team will show up . The team that plays with steady consistent ball rotation shot selection and player movement on offense or the Team that stands around watching one or two players trying to take over the game playing Tit For Tack wreck ball . The team that can stay the course..i.e extended leads and or runs , or the team that reverts to individual play When the game gets tight .I don't know about the rest of you But I have yet to see , This team this team stay the course for a complete game this season . I have seen glimpses of what they can do if they maintain their composer. When I was coaching teams like ours . We called "Breakdown" teams. Because we knew as long as we stayed our course and kept the lead or the game close, that the other team would " Breakdown" and lose their Composer and Continuity and beat themselves..i.e A&T. The question is which team will show up and if it's the right team can they stay the course and play a complete game without beating themselves.

Translation: "I personally have no idea how to design a real offensive set so I decided to just have my best player figure something out at the end." You can take a time out to communicate that …Watson loves that step back 3 absolutely wrong time for it down 1 with 13.5 seconds. You don’t really need a offensive play just run a 4 out or 3 out have Watson drive. After that monster dunk high probability some one rotates to double Watson when he comes down the lane ….easy pass to Duncan whomever open. If the double never comes take all the way to the rack . In addition I am not really feeling his comments on Powell and Robinson . Would been nice to have both yes …..

It was either start Robinson or Powell, but not both unless you went small ball with Johnson out of the starting lineup.
