Hope we get a TV deal in place if we don’t have one already.

This is disappointing.. flo sports sucks .. in an era of nil deals schools like ours are already at an disadvantage.. now we are stuck w “come here and you wont ever be on ESPN (not even the conference title) but you will be on FloSports” If you are a D2 or lower school flo sports makes sense. But if almost everyone is on another platform in D1 it does not make sense. The only people w a flo sports account are people in the CAA. There is not a team in the conference that an ordinary person would spend a monthly subscription to watch. Consequently the fan base for this conference is not a HBCU fan base so it’s not large enough for us to gain anything. This does not make sense any way you look at it. Someone has to owe someone a favor of some kind. Because why in a world of maximum exposure you choose the least exposure. Austin, Texas and New York, NY (August 11, 2022) – The BIG EAST Conference has announced a three-year extension to its agreement with leading sports streaming service FloSports, the home of the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) presented by SoFi. BEDN on FloSports featured more than 600 BIG EAST events during the 2021-22 season, which included Olympic sports and women’s basketball game coverage, while also showcasing original content such as “Shootaround” and “Fast Break,” the Conference’s weekly men’s and women’s basketball feature shows. The multi-year agreement also provides access to discounted subscriptions for BIG EAST member institution students and faculty. www.flosports.tv/2022/08/15/big-east-signs-multi-year-agreement-with-flosports/ I honestly appreciate your ability to look for the best in things. But if you keep reading they are only doing 220 events with the concentration on women’s sports. They would never be dumb enough to give rights to that little platform for men’s sports. Womens bball is the equivalent to D2 schools where this platform is available. If you look on Twitter the response to this is 100% disdain. Not found one single person that thinks this is a good deal. This was a money grab by the conference with complete disregard to the players or the member institutions. They are making tons and we are making none. There is no sharing even tho one could argue they could only strike that deal w 2 HBCU membership. I am extremely angry about this and I think there needs to be a big discussion about it because this really really hurts us. I imagine if it was that great he would’ve had university at the University retweeting, or making some type of a comment about how happy they were so far I have not seen one institution say that we are glad about this deal that speaks volumes. My guess is discussions are already happening. Because this is a BS P.S. Northeastern official Twitter account denounced it.

Without knowing what the other offers were is kind of hard to make such statements. You know this decision was probably voted on and approved by the ADs? This offer more flexibiity and money that what ESPN probably offered. Schools make money of local commercials on Flo and can have linear television deals. A&T must get off its @ss and get a linear deal.

Are you sure they voted? Based off what we do know .. the athletic directors and schools would have to agree that you keep us on a platform that gives us 80% less exposure than other mid majors, you are going to get paid way more money, and you are not going to share it with us..
I find it hard to believe even one says yes to that but impossible 14 did.

This deal is probably more lucrative than what ESPN offered, especially when you add in the ability to sign linear deals for football and basketball. Who says they are not going to share? That is an assumption. Per the press conference, 24 games on national linear tv is the second most of any mid-major conference. Its and 8 figure deal for four years and we keep linear TV rights. If we worked this the right way, the Aggie Eagle could be on over the air television in the piedmont triad area...same with GHOE. We just have to work to make this advantageous for us!!

If we do get a linear we deal which I’m all for - it does not match the exposure you get from a national audience. Let’s take for example this year there was a major game between UNC-W and College of Charleston, yes the conference wins for having it on flo sports but the players and institutions lost out big. This will always be the case as long as we are on this platform
This is not complicated - you have every single mid major and most major conferences all on ESPN streaming service. You have all those fans that just can click on the game if they want to. You add that to the many times we were on ESPNU, big south game of the week, A&T/NCCU, Thursday night games.. and you want to compare that type of media deal and exposure on the possibility that News 2 might air a game.
If it made so much sense and was such a great deal we would not be the only mid major conference to do it. 💁🏿

The new eight-figure agreement with FloSports is the most lucrative media rights deal in league history and will see over 1,200 games air annually, including the majority of conference championships. 8-Figures represents eight digits and a 8-figure salary will fall between $10,000,000 – $99,999,999.

CAA 2019 Deal only paid $4.5M over four years (10 teams)
In the scheme of things, the deal that the Colonial Athletic Association signed with FloSports earlier in the week would barely be a blip on the radar when it comes to collegiate media rights contracts. Over the next four years, FloSports, a digital sports media company, will pay the CAA about $4.5 million to broadcast 300 of the league’s sporting events, including football, men’s and women’s basketball games.
In comparison the new deal pays 8 figures over four years (14 teams)
The conference also extended its wide-ranging media partnership with FloSports to serve as the exclusive world-wide digital platform for live and on-demand coverage of CAA sports through 2026-27. The new eight-figure agreement with FloSports is the most lucrative media rights deal in league history and will see over 1,200 games air annually, including the majority of conference championships.

We still haven't hired a replacement for Carl Hairston, after more than a year since he left.
The opportunity to broker a linear TV deal means nothing to us right now. We dont have the infrastructure to take advantage of that option.

Lol. My fault. I got it mixed up with the $10,000,000. I had 10 on the mind.

We still haven't hired a replacement for Carl Hairston, after more than a year since he left. The opportunity to broker a linear TV deal means nothing to us right now. We dont have the infrastructure to take advantage of that option. This right here is the issue Linear TV is (over the air). The Member schools get the rights. Think as an institution as opposed to a consumer about this. ESPN would rarely show HBCU's on their Linear platforms. A game here, a game there during MLK wknd ect. (streaming), IDK how much ESPN pays it's mid-majors to stream their games. Now, I dont know how it works but: Can we buy time on The CW or Bounce TV or on the National but still obscure ( Byron Allen's ) Grio TV? Sell our Ads,- tied into our budding NIL Partners- and put our Product on the Floor along with our Brand like the Old ACC used to do.( sailing with the Pilot Life ins). The Games are at 2pm on a Saturday. The Women are on at 2pm on Sunday. Or possibly a thurs night game. Heck, Can The MBA Program in the business School buy an Ad (and with turn right around and keep the $$)? Who is trying to sell to the almost 15k A&T Students/Parents? Of course Dame's chicken and waffles ect or the Local Furniture company, but how about Squeezing the Sheraton? Or offering an opportunity for the many on-line stores that is selling HBCU Gear. Or heck Promote our Athletic Capital Campaign when the time comes. I see Coaches Shows on Linear TV every Sunday ect in my market Raleigh/Durham/Chapel-hill. I know that we are not ready. But Man, look at who is advertising with the other CAA schools on Flo? We can do it on Regular TV, and with Our Brand! Imagine airing some Aggie Baseball Games (no shots of War Mem though), and High Schoolers watching and saying D@mn! I want to go there! Btw, I dont know how much of a cut the Member Schools get of the big contract. But Man...let's get our Brand out there and Grab this Market, and eventually Charlotte and maybe Raleigh/Durham by buying time.

Personally, I believe the NC (A&T, Elon, Campbell and UNCW) and SC (CoC) schools should come together and negotiate a contract with linear networks within our footprint. Either Nexstar Media Group or Sinclair Broadcast Group...personally I prefer Nexstar since they have a station in Charlotte. Nexstar - Charlotte, Spartanburg SC (Greenville and Asheville too), Charleston, Raleigh, Greensboro and Greenville Sinclair - Greenville Spartanburg, Charleston, Raleigh, Greensboro and Greenville Big South had a partnership with Ingles and Nexstar to show football games. Personally, I believe the demand signal for CAA games including NC and SC schools will be higher than the BSC demand. The schools can approach Lowes which is HQ'd in Charlotte... Big South Corporate Partner Ingles will feature eight ESPN+ games broadcast locally and regionally on Nexstar Networks’ over-the-air stations throughout the Big South footprint. bigsouthsports.com/news/2021/7/28/big-south-announces-2021-football-television-package.aspx
