I posted this link when I started this thread and noted that it was written back in 2019. Some colleges have new head coaches and some HC "base salaries" have changed in that list. Some coaches bonuses and incentives are missing in this table as well which I found elsewhere. But this table is still relevant for comparison.

Below is a list of the 2024 CAA MBB teams and whether the school has a football program or is private.  Per your criteria, these four schools' head coach salaries plus compensations range from $275K to $505K.  All the non-football schools' head coach salaries plus compensations are well above $400K.  Excluding Hampton (coach's salary unknown), all the private schools with a football program have coaches who salaries plus compensations are greater than $330K.

Does anyone know the salary of Coach Brown to use as reference, since several say the men's basketball head coach's salary should not be greater than the football head coach's salary?  Former coach Samuel Washington "base salary" was $301,250 in 2022.  I don't know if he had any compensation package (bonus, incentives, supplemental). 

Our previous track coach, Randolph Ross, "base salary" was $325,000 in 2022 and our WBB HC "base salary" is $221,400 which was more than our former MBB HC in 2022.  NC Central Levelle Moton, a proven winner, "base salary" is $333,125 and greater than the school's football head coach salary.  This may not remain the case based on Trei Oliver football team's recent performance.  Read the below article to see what NCCU included in Moton's compensation package to hopefully keep him at the university.

NSS said it best imo. Pay what they're worth regardless of what the football coach is making. You think a first-time head football coach is going to complain if somebody with better credentials in another sport comes in outearning him? As far as I know nobody was really checking for Brown until we got him.

So Coach Brown's total salary package could be greater than or equal to $400K/yr.  I am glad to know this because for me, it tells me that the administration was aware that they needed to offer a higher salary to potential football head coach candidates due to us now playing in the CAA, which is a more competitive conference than the MEAC or Big South.  I assume that is the reason for the increase in salary over Coach Washington's salary, since Coach Brown has never been a football head coach, while Coach Washington had 5 years of head coach experience. 

Hopefully, Martin/Hilton will make similar offer adjustments in hiring the best MBB head coach available that we can afford, even if the new MBB HC's total salary package is greater than or equal to that of the FB HC.  Maybe this new piece of information may change some people's mind on their vote, or maybe not.

That's why you have a starting cap base and a end cap/ ceiling salary cap and with negotiations in between. Good negotiating skills are needed to find common ground in between before get to your ceiling cap . Now that we have the base salary negotiated and set then it is time to add the incentives for the head coaching staff . That could be equal to or more of his-staffs base .

Looking at the HC candidates from the below link, there is a good chance we will pay the next MBB HC greater than or equal to $400K if one of them is chosen. Only 6 people in poll voted for salary offer greater than $400K thus far.

Rasheed Wallace: Has the least coaching experience at the college level (1 semester as assistant coach at Memphis). Has name recognition as player (good and bad). Salary offer could come in less than $400K due to lack of experience.

Steve Smith: Florida State assistant coach. Plenty of college experience. Last year, a Florida State assistant coach left for $600K to be an "associate coach" at Missouri. I expect salary offer to be greater than $400K.

BJ McKie: Wake Forest assistant coach. Has good amount of coaching experience. He was a candidate for the University of South Carolina MBB head coach job last year, which commands a salary over one million yearly. Not sure how that influences what A&T pays him. No info on his salary at WF. Salary offer could come in around $400K.

Frank Haith: Memphis assistant coach. Has the most coaching experience of the 4 candidates. He even has past HC experience at 3 D1 schools (Miami, Missouri, Tulsa). Once named national coach of the year, twice conference coach of the year, has won regular season and conference championships. I expect salary offer to be greater than $400K.

Note: There are other candidates that have applied for the HC position.  These candidates are only being discussed by me because they were mentioned in the above article.
