good teams like uncw who don't start playing "street ball" like us will always blow us out. i replayed the entire game and most of the time uncw made 5 or 6 "passes" in their half court offense before taking a shot. they "shared" the basketball and moved the ball until someone had an open shot or a high percentage shot. that's the "total opposite" of what we do.
we're lucky to pass the ball more than once and its not that unusual if we don't pass the ball at all. then we keep "jacking up" a bunch of "contested" 3's and missing the vast majority of them. that's how we fell so far behind.
i'm just gonna be honest, this game was "embarrassing". it almost felt like uncw was just "toying" with us. we had no answers on either end of the court.
the only good feeling i had about watching that game is that i played in that arena several times in high school against wilmington new hanover hs and didn't lose any games there. other than that, i didn't see anything else tonight that made me feel good...

We have 6 games left with Towson being the only team ranked higher than us in the CAA standings. Again I repeat, we have the easiest remaining schedule. Mathematically, we can still finish in the top 4 of the CAA regular season but because of our current playing style we have a small chance of achieving that goal.
I asked a question earlier in this same thread if Robinson was hurt and why Duke was starting over him and Powell. Robinson played only 3 minutes and did not contribute to any stats. Again, I ask if he is hurt? I suspect Duke started over Powell to help relieve pressure being placed on Kam having to bring up the ball and run the offense sometimes as PG moving Kam over to SG. If this was his plan, it failed because statistically Duke did not do much. He had zero assists and 2 points.
I said this 1 to 2 weeks ago that our coach's plan to bring Powell off the bench has also failed. Not due to fault of Powell, but in the last 4 to 5 games by the time he is subbed into the game the team has already settled into its run and gun style of play that there are few passes to the Bigs. In fact, there are few passes to anyone as a few posters have noted.
The lack of ball movement in our offense has not gone unnoticed by the opposing team. I started this thread with a UNCW pregame article. Within it, it mentions that Kam has taken 129 more shots than their leading team scorer. I did not make much light of it before the game, but now I see it as UNCW highlighting how dependent we are on him and thus the strategy to shut him down.
The vast majority of our points and shots come from 2 players (Kam and Watson). If one of them is shut down, in particular Kam, we tend to lose because the 2 of them continue to force shots to shoot their way back into the game. By doing so, they don't move the ball around thus creating wasted possessions and turnovers, therefore not allowing opportunities for any teammates to step in to pickup the slack. Horton used to be able to pickup the slack but his shot attempts have gone down slightly as well these last few games. Kam and Watson had 5 TO a piece this game. By far the most TOs by any player.
Let's see if the team notices what is happening and can correct the ship to finish strong. The stats still give us a chance to finish in the top 4 to "earn" those byes. Otherwise, they will finish the regular season right around where I predicted (0.5 to .667 CAA win record) but well above the 11th place preseason poll predictions. They currently stand at 6-6 CAA win record.

I fell asleep, woke up and it was 2 mins left. After re-watching the game:
*I liked their Pre-game broadcast * McDuffie needs more run. * Run more plays for Horton. *This Team needs Kam to heat back up.
These last two losses were almost blow-outs. This up-coming stretch in Feb is it!

I just want to say whoever the coach is next year that they recruit some real deal shooters. We have suspect shooters and that includes Watson and #3.
Our team love to shoot the "3" but in actuality they are not accurate and most of the time it is a bad shot out of position. Most of the time they are hoping it go in or get a lucky bounce.
We need real deal mid range shooters who can make the 3 when it is available. We don't have that luxury on this present team.

The CAA teams have figured out that we are a two trick pony...second half of the season will be rough if we dont make changes.

No we need players that Think before they shoot..i.e take easy shot , especially if your 3 is not falling and follow up there shots after. We have shooters but they only have 3 ball itis . Because they don't Think .

The team recruiting better players and hiring a good coach does not have to be mutually exclusive. While we chase a conference championship and a NCAA national championship we should always be striving to improve in both areas. If the debate is which area we need to address first, then my vote is to hire a good coach with proper staff support.
By hiring a good coach, he should be able to identify any players or team weaknesses and implement a system that strengthen and develop their weaknesses as well as enhance our recruitment of high school players (nationally and internationally) and college players through the transfer portal. The undisciplined in player or players will work itself out through reduction in playing time or transfer. Also, I would take some blame off the players because they were thrust into a difficult situation with the sudden change of a new coach and significant team injuries. How do we know how each player would have responded under a good HC? A good head coach will set a higher standard for the team in several areas like discipline, fundamentals, work ethics, etc., to achieve overall success.
Lastly, I would love if the coach could start his own coaching tree where coaches and staff members developed under him eventually go on to be successful coaches at A&T or other universities. Why not set the bar high and see what happens?

We need Monmouth to upset Drexel today who is coming off a victory over the College of Charleston last Thursday. Also, a loss by Northeastern and Stony Brook would give us a one game cushion in the lost column. The 3 of us have 6 conference losses.
FYI. You can always monitor CAA games played today by going to the scoreboard link located in the pinned MBB STANDINGS/SCHEDULE/SCORES thread.

Stony Brook is losing by 10 @ half to Hofstra. The 2 worst teams in the CAA standings won again today. These teams are playing their butts off so we need to be playing our best these last 6 games. No slow start.

Stony Brook lost today as well. We are 1 game behind Drexel which is 5th. We are now 1 game ahead of Northeastern and Stony Brook in the lost column. Things are happening in our favor we just need to take care of business.

Things are happening in our favor we just need to take care of business. It won’t matter if our offense continues to stall once Woods is taken out of games.
