Relatively quiet on this board/topic today.
We were favored to win this game by 11. The Aggies knew this & all they saw was a 2-18 team & overconfidently gave themselves a win last night while playing spades in Haley Hall.
NO energy AT ALL from the team AND the fans. Thusly, I ask this question again:
WHERE IS THE PEP BAND? Has the band gotten too famous to NOT play in Corbett? I dare not say "Club Corbett," as the hyped environment that made it a tough place to play has disappeared! There are high school games with more electricity & energy than what I've seen at A&T.
I don't understand why Uncle Phil is okay with Machine Gun going 5-25 from the floor over the last 2 games without allowing him to enjoy the view from court side until he learns some shot discipline & floor leadership. Maybe that's why #5 stripped out of his jersey at the buzzer & walked back to the locker room without participating in the post game handshake.
I don't understand why Fat Joe Lean Back has convinced himself that he is a shooter. I don't need to go into specific nor statistical detail. You see what I see.
I guess I'll give Dallas Program Changing Talent Shag some props & call attention to his rebounding. But that's about it. Maybe I'm being overly critical, but I just don't see what some of you all foam at the mouth over.
The Aggies were dominated in every facet of the game today. They underestimated a bad team, which is hysterical considering that we are a bad team.
And some of y'all are talking about postseason play. Y'all better stop popping those percs!
On to UNC-Wilmington.

Monmouth had some fans there…
I think the students going to the games will be a thing until there is more student organization involvement at each home game…
Until that happens…on top of the pep band returning…it’s going to be an issue…
If any game should start the coaching search for the AD though…it’s this one.

Whether y’all agree or not. It does.

So the pep band hasn't performed at a home basketball game AT ALL so they can prepare for a competition on (insert month & day here)? We're talking about the pep band here, not the full ensemble. "Club" Corbett is no more. It's more like the "Wine & Cheese Crowd" Charlie Ward said the Dean Dome was like the first time Florida State played there way back when.
I'm not saying that their presence is enough to offset our Windsor Recreation Center type of play which closely mirrors a brick masonry class given all of the bricks #2,#3,#4,#5 and to a degree, #24 have been laying out there, but it would bring a certain electricity & energy. Maybe the boys would feed off of that energy. Maybe it would bring in more students/fans, & the team would feel compelled to play better basketball. But, since the AD & Band Director can't agree to terms on appearance fees, we may never know.

They barely were allowed to play when we first introduced the DJ to the games.

Y'all seeing this? NO rebounding... (Still)Cannot shoot... Machine Gun Woods & Fat Joe Lean Back Watson throwing up enough bricks to build another dorm. Dallas Shag Four Star has zero points (again). Down by 8 at halftime against a 2-win team. & some on here talking about "postseason play!" "PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS?" Hey brother, what happened to those great Aggie players and awesome interim coach? Guess those guys on the other team didn't read our press reports.

....ain’t no way the pep band should be in a discussion after we lose to a 1-20 team.

Monmouth slowed the game down. They almost played four corners.

I was there. They didn’t have it today. They hustled. Monmouth had one dude who ate.
Elliott showed me something at times. Monmouth tried to run us out the gym. And so it goes. On to the next game.

Why is it that every time one of our teams gets beat, folks start blaming the band for not showing up. As if they could get this team to block out or stop heaving up bricks from the concession stands. Want a hyped gym, figure out how to get students to show up and fire up the DJ!

As trivial as it may sound, "home court advantage" isn't always about playing within the confines of your own gym. It's the intangibles. A sea of students at the end of the other team's side of the court or behind their bench (decently) heckling them or waving blue and gold hand towels each time they shoot free throws. It's the specialty nights like "white out night," "gold rush night," and another attempt at "black out night" with the appropriate uniforms on the boys. IT IS the pep band playing the hades out of motivational tunes. Get rid of the DJ IMO. He's corny. Our crowd is DEAD. The students really have no reason to come to the games because the crowd is DEAD. That, and the quality of play that is out there now isn't really appealing. BUT...IF certain intangibles were covered, it could be the start of something.
Now on to the game...TERRIBLE. No energy, no enthusiasm, and of course, the regular no boxing out, no shot discipline, game management from the point guard, and no apparent nor real offensive sets to run. You know it's bad when our own game announcers who are on the Aggie payroll begin to sound off about the poor shot selection, lack of inside points in the paint, lack of offensive or defensive boards leading to points in the paint, reset shot clocks, or containing Monmouth runs, and just a general lethargy that appeared to grip the Aggies tonight.
I believe that Monmouth/King Rice watched the film. Twice. They put two bodies on Machine Gun and frustrated him into ANOTHER abysmal shooting performance. They let Fat Joe Lean Back spot up for 3 and mid-range jumpers because the analytics say he's going to miss 88% of the time. "Let them shoot!" Coach Rice said, because they ain't gonna box out and won't get back on defense. We can get points in transition and get them to play rec ball when they fall behind!"
That's the scouting report on us.
It is likely that the team will finish .500 in the league, thus avoiding the Thursday night games in DC. The best approach is to take 1 game at a time, focus on the opponent in front of them, & clean up the little & BIG things that are beating us.
I agree with an earlier post that said that today's debacle should be enough to accelerate the recruitment & selection of a new head coach. One who will carefully evaluate the current roster and recruit effectively to the SYSTEM he will bring in. If that means an exodus to the portal, so be it.

There’s always that chance that you could shoot your self out of a game after a decent shooting game. Hopefully we can regroup, put it back together and be ready to play the next one.
