But I also believe a victory would be the worst thing that could happen to us because it would put us squarely in the crosshairs of every team we face after that. If Dilfer's team blows us out, we'll be overlooked. That is a ridiculous thought process. How would beating a FBS team in the first game of the season be the worst thing that could happen to us? Every single team on our schedule next year will be game-planning to beat us. Losing to UAB won't cause them to feel pity for us. We need every win we can get. Beating UAB would be a tremendous confidence booster heading into the unchartered waters of CAA conference play.

Not beating a FBS team is the "worst thing that could happen to us". SMH

Never mind Deon, if we beat UAB at the start of the season, I'm going to start selling baseball caps that say, "Deion Who?" and bottles of "HBCU Culture" on Ebay!

Like I stated before the CAA is not the SEC . I think a lot of you are giving over estimating and underestimating A&T . For me again I say it's not the talent but it is definitely the Coaching , Preparation and Execution that will determine if we are relevant in this conference .

Thrilla and multi-man, did y’all even finish reading what the rest of the sentence said before you starting humping each other’s legs?
What happened two weeks after we beat ECU? How bout the week after we beat Kent State? Yes Tulsa was most likely going to get in that a$$ anyways but the win put them on notice and made them take us far more seriously.
That is all I’m saying here. If we beat UAB it would theoretically be similar to being picked to win the Big South. It would give the other teams on our schedule extra incentive to beat us, which would be bout the last thing we’d actually want to give them. At least imo.
That being typed, like I said I wouldn’t be surprised if we won, lost close, or lost a blowout. No idea what to expect.

It would give the other teams on our schedule extra incentive to beat us, which would be bout the last thing we’d actually want to give them. At least imo. Every team we play wants to beat us every week. That is the nature of competitive sports. Every opposing coach is trying to keep his job. Every opposing player is trying to boost his stats. If we lose by 80 points against UAB, the team we play the following week will still be trying to beat us. Real bad.

All this is great, but I thought this thread was about Sam Washington vs. Trent Dilfer. I actually believe there's a small possibility of victory there if we keep it close and win the turnover battle. But I also believe a victory would be the worst thing that could happen to us because it would put us squarely in the crosshairs of every team we face after that. If Dilfer's team blows us out, we'll be overlooked. That would give us a better advantage in games after that. In the words of Carl Thomas, it's a catch 22. A target is always on the back of the new kid in the neighborhood . Until he proves that he is not to be F with win or lose . As my father would say RIP 🙏 " You don't have to win the fight but you damn better be in it " . As far a Washington and Dilfer goes they both have to prove that they can coach and win at a higher level with each starting facing off with the other .

Now we need to research if Brown and Dilfer have crossed paths before.
