Another issue with comparing us to other HBCUs is that they don’t have as much competition for musicians as we do. NC has the most HBCUs and each school has a football team and marching band. The state of Florida has 4 HBCUs with football and marching band. Louisiana only has two HBCUs period! MS has three HBCUs with football and marching band. There is more demand and opportunities than the other states we consistently compare A&T to. Add to that the local feeder high schools aren't that great anymore either. Growing up in Louisiana we started band class in elementary school. The high schools there could easily blow out majority of the NC HBCU marching bands now(minus us of course) lol. **New Orleans alone has just as many black high school marching bands as the entire state of NC** youtu.be/rytLMdlFLB8

Chancellor Martin and the BOT started investing nearly 900K in new top line instruments into the band just three years ago. Guess where most of the money came from. The AAF pays for damn near everything "extra" related to A&T sports. I'm getting tired of all the back and forth and loud talking. Sign up and donate, DESIGNATE, and let's get on with it.Thanks for sharing. I did not know that. I make my contributions to the band directly to school.

No offense, it sounds like a satisficing attitude toward the band. I tell you one thing, the football or basketball teams start getting pimp slapped on the field and court, watch how the admins scramble to get them more monies to become competitive. When the band doesn't show well, they get the "Y'all need to practice because y'all suck!" comments. SHAME! Second, it's excellent they overhauled the instruments, do you know how old the instruments were before they were overhauled. The attitude seems to be as if the band program wastes the monies they are given. They (band) has so many glaring holes, when they do get the hands on some substantial funding, it cannot be used proactively, it has to be used for something that was a need for years. SHAME! I wonder if the admins would have taken the funding for the new football uniforms and given it to the band, what would have been said. Man, the earth would have stopped spinning on its axis in Greensboro.

I think this is done at Southern, but i could be mistaken. What about introducing a line item in the student fees that goes directly to the band. Of course the students would have to approve the referendum but quick math here:
Of the 13,322 students, 11,236 are full time ( we're gonna pretend their all undergrads and haven't opted out of fees)
$100 x 11,236 = 1.12M towards a new facility Or at $50, that 500K towards schollys and so on...

Good luck with trying to introduce a student fee hike… It's not actually not that hard. Plus, during the Alumni Town Hall, Chancellor Martin basically said Student Athletic Fees will be going up over time. It's not a stretch to reach out to the board to request a fee for the band.

If the students are going to pay an extra $100 it should be for a parking deck and dorms not band scholarships for students that already received $5k in benefits from the school.

The band students receive $5k in additional benefits each semester? I was about to ask same question because up til this point from what I've been reading they're all Marching for free, loyalty, and the like. So now there getting $5K per semester, which is it, are they or aren't they receiving some type of financial assistance for being in band. Now granted I agree they could get more, but I was under the assumption, based on talks around here they got zippy. Just asking for clarification.

The band students receive $5k in additional benefits each semester? Not specifically for the band, the student population received nearly $5K in support. If the band stopped making trips to the battle of the band in Houston they can have more for scholarships. A&T announced investments of $40 million last year in areas intended to promote the success of all students, investments that continue this year. The average incoming first-year student can expect cost reductions totaling $5,000, including free textbooks, six hours of free summer school tuition, housing and dining scholarships, access to emergency grants and a new iPad. www.ncat.edu/news/2022/08/ncat-begins-2022-23-academic-year.php

Has Dr.Ruff ever submitted a formal request to the university showing how many total members he ideally would need for the BGMM?
Like 50 tuba players, 10 saxophones, 25 golden delight dancers, etc?
