If we act now, the new coach could meet with all the current players and convince them to stay. I would love to find out that Shumpert is a diamond in the rough, once-in-a-generation, inspirational leader. But honestly, if he was a bench coach on Jones' staff, we can do better.

The elephant in the room! Is it in the hands of the AD?

We need to get it right! If it takes one week or ten months, get it right!

Rasheed Wallace is an Assistant(HOLLA AT A BOY) at Memphis under Penny Hardaway, hell we should contact the NBAPA to find out who all their candidates are. The players association is seeking to help more retired players get hired at HBCU'S.

Today is August 19. The first game on our upcoming schedule is Nov. 7. There is no reason whatsoever that we should have to go an entire season with a coach who will not be employed by the university in April of 2023. We have enough time to make the right hire, right now. No we don't. A new coach will likely have a totally new system players will have to learn and become disgruntled. In this age of the transfer portal they could very easily choose to enter it now and walk. With all due respect, we need to be judicious with this decision. What I will say is we don't need to promote from within any longer. That clearly has not worked for us.

First of all it’s to late for a coach to come in put a system in place and hire a competent staff. More than likely we would hire someone that is currently employed. So if you found a competent coach in a week or 2 that person needs to get 2 -3 other assistants to leave their post.
I agree with Oldschool there are plenty of good coaches out there but 99% of them are currently employed. As much as some of you guys complain about Deion you want us to hire a Former NBA player because it looks good and generates excitement. OK 😂
Start a short list today. Evaluate that list again when season ends. Add a couple additional candidates from teams that do well in NCAA tourney both D1 and D2…..
The above would get you a great coach.

Right now, there are only two coaches listed on the staff page. ncataggies.com/sports/mens-basketball/coachesWe are gonna have to hire new guys over the next two months anyway. Plus, our offensive system was thrash under Jones. It would not hurt anything if we had to suddenly start over from scratch.

What assistant worth his salt would join our coaching staff now, knowing that he will likely be out a job come April?
It would be better to hire a permanent coach right now and he can offer his incoming assistants some stability.

....don't see why we can't hire a quality asst coach from a reputable D-I program who's ready to prove himself. Plus, we don't have other D-I competition right now with respect to looking for a new coach. We can be proactive about all of this if we choose to be.

1. Another year is just that, we restart the program again next year. 2. New system this year or a new system next. The thing is a new system this year is a year older next year. 3. What's the guarantee Coach Shumpert won't implement his system? After all, every game is his interview. Would you down your way or the other guy's way? 4. If players are gonna leave, they are gonna leave, at least a new coach will know what he has in the players that stay. 4. Job changes (career advancement) happen all the time in the real world without the family in toe immediately. 5. Once the season starts we are dead in the water until April, resulting i Analysis Paralysis.
At this point we are talking about what should have been done, not what can be done.

If he has the same language in his contract as Washington, then he was terminated without cause.
